The Houston area Ride for Kids is coming up fast.  It's taking place on Sunday, April 28, leaving out of the Humble Civic Center.

Today, I created a group online at their site for signing up.  You can go to
http://www.curethekids.org/rideforkids/
and follow the links through to register for the Houston ride,
or
https://secure3.convio.net/pbtf/site/TRR/2013RideforKids/General?fr_id=1140&pg=tfind&JServSessionIdr004=flnf9ysny2.app332a#.UWshVUkX6JM
and near the bottom, there is a "search for existing ride teams" option.  I named the team "Texas Valkyrie Riders Cruiser Club".  If you register online, you get $10 off the registration fee, plus you get a free entry in the drawing for the Goldwing that that they'll be giving away in Houston.
Come on out and join us for the ride.  We'll be talking here about meetup locations/times for the day of the event.

Mark what's the cost to register?  Any info on the ride time, distance, start-end?

$40 online, $50 at the door to register.  Raise as much extra money as you can, and they'll be grateful.  Certain extra donation/fundraising milestones get you different appreciation gifts.

I haven't paid much attention to distance, but it's actually fairly short.  It takes about an hour and a half or so to complete.  They have full police escort.
There's a program afterwards where you get to hear from the kids that the research helps.

As for start time, as per their website:  Registration opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 9:30 a.m. The escorted ride starts at 10 a.m. sharp, rain or shine!

At least 3 or 4 of us are coming down from the Dallas area.  Look forward to seeing our Houston (and Beaumont, Eli) brothers and sisters!

When I started the team, I thought the password was just to get in as a manager, not to join.  I don't see any reason not to give the password here, as we don't want to restrict people, so, use:
"TexasVRCC"
No spaces.

Letting more people have access to pay good money to join our group sounds risky.
I think they require the PW just to prevent accidents and protec groups that are real sensitive Smiley

Look forward to seeing you guys in Humble this weekend. Got my new aux tank on solid as can be thanks to some help from a couple of club wrenches, including a certain DOD aircraft/spacecraft certified inspector. This thing is definitely function over form and should help me get the sidecar rig to Houston with only one gas stop and two food stops. Waiting on parts for the heads up display and linked traffic armament so they will be mounted later.

Good question.  Does anyone want to ride up from the south side with me?

I'm sure some people want to meet up nearby, so let's meet at 8:15 at the Shell station on the southeast corner of 59 and Will Clayton  (sorry, earlier I had written 45.  59 is what I meant).  From there it's a few minutes' ride in.
I picked the time out of the air, so if someone objects, I may modify it a bit.  Keep an eye on this post in case we do, and let me know that you intend to show up so that I know who to look for.

Great to see a number of you guys Sunday.  We also met a couple of Valk riders who haven't been part of the club yet and hope they will come join the Houston crew sometime.

Sorry for the rest of you who missed a gorgeous day for a ride. Sunny and perfect temperatures.

See you next year. If you haven't been out for this, you need to come out to the dinner on Saturday and the ride on Sunday. Both are fun and happen for a reason bigger than any of us - to help kids with cancer.
