Hi all, I picked up a set of Kury Iso pegs to replace the stock pegs on my Valkyrie. Seemed simple enough, took out the little cotter pin and pulled the pin that goes through the peg bracket and off comes the stock peg with no problem. The coil spring that puts that slight tension on the peg so it does not rattle around falls out on the floor.
Here is where my problem begins, I did not see exactly how that spring went in mount and I have put it in there every way I could thing of and am not doing something right because it is not providing any tension on the peg.
What should have been an easy job has been a nightmare and I just can not figure it out LOL, any chance of anyone having some sort of illustration of where exactly that darned spring goes?

Thanks for the photo LinnB, it is pretty straight forward on how the spring goes inside the bracket with the pin going through the spring. I have put that spring in as shown but something is not right because the spring is not doing it's job. I have looked the spring over closely for some sort of damage but it appears to be in perfect shape, not broken or bent, I have to believe that I am not doing something right. Al

Did you already take all the pegs off the bike? The other side?

No, the peg on the foot brake side is still on but everything is so enclosed that viewing the spring placement while on the bike is just about impossible. I will take that one off today and if anything it will show if the first spring is damaged, which I am leaning toward.

I installed these on my IS last summer. First make sure the pin will go through the new peg. Mine didn't and I had to get a pair from the UFA outlet. It's frustrating, and took me two or three tries using a screw driver from the bottom, but they will jam in there if you have the patience. It would be easier mounting the pegs on the plates before bolting the plates onto the bike. Fred.

I am now pretty sure the problem is the spring itself, looks like the tip has broke off on one of the ends so it no longer provides tension. I have tried to rework it but as anyone knows who has messed with springs an almost impossible task. A replacement spring should solve the problem and the problem now is finding a vendor that carries the spring. So far I have not had any luck finding one so any suggestions would sure be appreciated. Your Honda dealer can't get them? I haven't looked at a lot of foot pegs specifically to see if they have similar springs, but I can't imagine they would have a special one that only works on Valkyries, or that similar springs from a number of different bikes wouldn't work. If your dealer or bike wrecker can't help, try a spring company like Century Spring: http://www.centuryspring.com/Products/torsion.php

It takes me more time to remove and reassemble a Valkyrie-Kuryakyn foot peg than it does for me to remove, lube, and reassemble the final drive. That's a fact Im not proud of.

HDL shows the spring for less than $4. See the URL in the post above.

Maybe your aftermarket foot peg is not made in such a way as to be able to work with that spring.

I have iso pegs as rider pegs too. I remember there was an adapter needed. Did you get the adapter?

The Kuryakyn peg has the adapter and looks to be exactly the same as the stock Honda peg as far as where the spring goes so that is not the problem.
I placed an order for a couple of springs from the Honda direct link posted above.

Not all ISO Pegs from Kuryaykn require adapters for rider pegs. It would help a lot if the specific model number was known. My rider Kury's did not require any adapter, just time to get on the bike. See below. http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/Kuryakyn_Dually_ISO_Pegs_for_GL1500_Magna_pr_p/7945.htm

Those Iso Pegs that are pictured are the same Kuryaykn pegs that I have.

The springs you order should do the job. Watch their orientation.

Got the new footpeg springs, left side peg no problem. The right side peg I need to take off the chrome master cylinder cover above the peg so I can take out the pin that holds the peg.
Is there a tip on how to take this cover off? I am guessing that there are some sort of tabs holding this cover on, I have pulled on it but she is on there pretty good and has not come loose, I do not want to break anything.

Hey Airedale... I put Kury's ISO's on mine last summer. I remember it took me a bit to figure out the orientation of the spring too! Yes, there is a bolt holding that cover on. It's an Alan head Bolt, on the bottom side of the cover, about an inch from the peg mounting point, towards the front of the bike. I don't remember if there were any tabs, but if there is, it would be metal and won't break off. Glad you got the spring thing fixed!
