Black and white are the neg. wires.

The wiring diagram in the Clymer manual does show the black/white as being common connected to ICM. These are tied to the engine cutoff switch and the bank angle sensor. Are they actually negative or directly grounded to the frame, not from the way I see it. True they are common to the electronic circuit.

Trying to equate a particular wire as negative/positive seems to be a roundabout way to find a ground.

The only true ground, one you can be sure of, is to make a ground wire yourself and attach it to the frame.

On the other hand, another way, would be to disconnect whatever you're wanting to test, and identify the positive wire, which should simply illuminate a test light when turning on the key.

That way then, identifying the other wire, as the negative lead.

But (it is) not necessarily a ground. Got to keep that in mind.

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I am wrong but I think the one wire is hot + at all times with the key on, the other is actually not a ground but goes to the ICM or trigger wheel and thus triggers the coil to fire the spark plug at the correct time
