trying to remove my throttle pipe on my IS.  have the grip off and switch/throttle housing top off...but i can't seem to get enough slack in the throttle cables to get them out of the slots in the plastic throttle pipe.  I have the service manual and on page 13-3 it simply says that at this stage i should be able to simply "disconnect the throttle cables frmo the throttle pipe" implying that i shouldn't need to dink around the carbs to loosen the cable down on the engine....but i can't figure this out.

thanks for some pointers on this.

Hmmm, they should come out. Have you backed off on the adjusters at all ?

as stated, back off the adjusters or loosen the handlebars and slide them to the left to get slack...pad the tank and get a second pair of hands if you do this so you don't dent your tank when the handlebar clamp is loosened (they will very rapidly rotate downward and dent your tank if you aren't careful).

Good luck...

I had to take off the chrome cover over the choke/enricher mechanism on the right side of the engine. Fairly easy to unhook the end of the throttle cable, gives you lots of slack. I think you have to remove the right side pod to get to the front screw.

Good luck

thanks....the tip to loosen the adjuster nut at the handlebar housing did the trick....got the cables off and didn't have to mess with anything around the carbs.

the reason i am doing this is despite being careful, i managed to get grip glue under the throttle pipe so had to disassemble the whole assembly to clean up.  i was careful not to cram it up against the housing...but didn't catch the fact that excess glue as it gets squeezed down the pipe when installing the new grip will run into the hole at the end of the throttle pipe.  since i am installing Kury ISO grips they don't use the small threaded end on the plastic throttle pipe, I am going to plug with a bit of silicon to prevent this in future (unless someone knows a reason i shouldn't do this ??)
