I don't use one now but I'm going to get one. Just wondering if anyone uses one and if so what brand are you using ? I used passports for years in my cars , but stopped using them because I rarely go over the speed limit . Just like knowing if the police are using radar so I can check my speed. But now I have a valk and she likes to go and I've been lucky so far .There is a 40 mph road in my town and a hill that has nice curves that I like to excellerate up and when I get to the top I throttle down and by the time I roll past a known speed trap I'm going the speed limit .Well the other day I'm doing just that but when I reach the top of the hill a cop is cresting the hill going the other way. He didn't come after me but he could of. It's just to easy to speed on the valk. Passport used to have a dectector that was battery powered I know I could hard wire one in but I have another bike that's easier to speed on than the fat girl so it would have to be easy to move between bikes . Just thinking a ticket would probably cost me $150 at least and the insurance would probably go up.i know most cops use laser but I'm wondering how easy in is to zap a bike , being  a lot smaller than a car.

valentine one and the passport are always rated well above all the others, didnt say they are the only ones to buy,I said they are the only ones worth buying.Your solo is outdated, that may work for you,but there are those of us who do not ride at the posted speed limit who would like a quality radar detector.

I use an Escort Redline mounted on a RAM mount with a magnetic base.  Power is provided using the Escort Direct Wire Cord accessory.  I can turn the volume all the way up and can hear the alerts at highway speeds.  The detector is mounted on the handlebar and situated so that I can easily see the LED display without taking my eyes off the road.  Redline is the best IMHO!

I have a old whistler. Had it on the bike since 2000. Saved me many times. It was $40. I never remove it in the rain or washing the bike. Been thru alot and still works. Saved me last july.
You can see it under my shield pouches.

I just read some reviews and watched a video of a test done by Radar Roy and the Redline scored very impressively-ahead of the Valentine 1 in almost every test!

I use an Escort 8500 with the Radar Screamer amplifier so I can hear it.
The Escort Solo is battery operated and in spite of what Escort says, does not have the same sensitivity or range as the hard wired units. Especially as the batteries wear down.
The Valentine 1 is a great unit but pricey.

A Valentine was given to me 2 years ago when my riding buddy passed.

I have mounts similar to the one pictured about on both Trikes.

The car and the truck each have Velcro on the dash to hold it.

The Valk (MGM) I added a cigarette lighter and it plugs into it.
The Chevy Trike already had a cigarette socket, so everything now uses a cig lighter.

Forgot to add, each vehicle also has it on cords for the detector.

Welcome to my dashboard. I think the the Passport 8500 is the way to go. My Bell rates well but eventually will be replaced with the 8500 . Hardwiring is really quite simple, pick up a hot lead and ground in the headlight and leave the excess wire there too. I also use an external speaker, powered from within the headlight, so I can hear alerts. The speaker is Velcroed on the back of my CB. I'm not a speeder for the most part but do want to know what's going on around me.   police   2funny   angel

Illegal in VA, so no (confiscated on the spot, and if hardwired, take the car until removed).  But I borrow a high end Passport for car trips where I haul ass (technical term), and works great.  Except for the false alerts from all those SUVs/trucks with backup radars, and all those flashing LED speed signs you pass, and all toll booths on the Turnpike.  But you get used to understanding the difference over time.

Running home to MI from VA on the PA turnpike, I have slowed (correctly) for radar and had guys overtake me only to smack their brakes around the bend, then I pass them again later, and end up having one-three cars settle in behind me (not tailgating) for many, many miles, slowing when I do. (they eventually see the coiled cord running up the dash to the sun visor where I stick it)

The one I borrow has a sexy feminine voice talking to me as well (for company)... responding is optional.

I bought a Valentine One in 2000 and used it for eight or nine years on the Valk, with a couple different mounting systems. I don't speed as much as I used to, and I got tired of listening to it beep so I threw it in a drawer and forgot about it. A few weeks ago I listed it on ebay and got $330 for a 13 year old detector! The Valentines not only work, they hold their value!
