So my rear pads are worn.  Shop Talk has article on fornt brake removal but not rear brake.  I took out the gray plug and loosened the allen bolt.  I then removed the large 13mm bolt forward on the brake.  Now I'm lost!    I thought the brake would come off. WHat am I missing?   There is a rubber plug but I oulled on it and it looked like it was going to tear.  Can anyone help me out here.....Thanks

You need to put that front bolt back in.  It won't help you with removing the rear pads.

Chances are, your pads are just pinched on the rotor.  I take a flat screwdriver and carefully pry against the rotor and pad.  It doesn't take much pressure to push the pads back out.  just use steady pressure.

You will need to pull the pin out completely to get the pads out.  They really are set up just like the fronts.

Hope this helps.

The rubber plug covers a safety bolt.
You'll need an open end wrench to remove the bolt, then remove caliper.
When you retighten the bolt,do not torque it down heavily.
You can buy replacement plugs if you rip the one you have.
Loook at the valkyrie microfiche or use a manual for a diagram.

I can't find the info either but here is what I do. Push/squeeze the caliper hard against the disk until you have pushed the piston back into the cylinder enough that there a good amount of slop between the pads and the disk when you move caliper back and forth. This will hopefully leave enough room for you to install the new pads.

Now remove the plug you mentioned and then remove the allen head bolt under it. Now you should be able to remove the pads without removing the caliper. Now you should be able to install the new ones. They 'hook' at the end opposite the bolt you removed and the bolt of course supports the other end. If you can't compress the cylinder enough then you may have to remove some brake fluid. In particular if it has been topped off or changed with worn pads installed.
