Anyone got a comment on their preference of engine oil for the Valkyrie, as regards mineral Vs semi synthetic Vs full synthetic.
Most dealer workshops in Australia seem to go for the mineral oils.
Either Shell AX5 ( 10w40 ) or Honda GN4 ( 10w30 )

Your kidding, right? If you go to the search on the top of this page, you'll find about 93 million opinions about oil. I went to Mobil 1 20/50 to help with the tranny noise, and to get the extra mileage for less oil changes. Worked on both counts! You'll find MANY differing opinions in the search. Make sure that any oil you use is NOT energy conserving ( says in the circle on the bottle) Any of that stuff is not good for the clutch. Happy reading cooldude

Any old kind of oil that doesn't have the clutch-slipping stuff
in it is the good kind...  coolsmiley

There are many oils that will do, but some cause the tranny to run much quieter. I like Rotella T6.

A very sensitive topic that has been discussed to death.  Do the search and read the data.  There is some really good info on viscosity, how oil behaves while cold, how the engine is impacted and how it can even make flowers bloom, if you use the "right" oil.

You'll find almost as many different oils in use as there are Valk riders.  I use Mobil 1 15-50, have since 2001. And change it every 5,000 miles with the filter and I use the Wal-mart house brand filter (it has the pressure function).

An old topic, but you asked, Mobil 1 15W50. Seems to minimize the tranny whine that is evident with Valks. Another favorite is Rotella T6 5W40. Both are synthetics.

It was supertech, but I think it was discontinued. I use Bosch 3323, I get them at Amazon.com.  There are many that will fit, but none are as cheap as the Super tech.  Sad   Hoser

ST7317 is the Super Tech number but unsure if they still carry them or if they have a replacement.  There was an issue with the ones made in Mexico (stamped on top) with plastic v. Rubber pressure grommet.  I bought 6 when they had them as they are a high demand part on many different bikes.

Fram PH 6017A fits but it's about 1/2 inch shorter than the ST which is the OEM length.

There is a great list of what fits a Valk on the VRCC Shoptalk page... http://www.jkozloski.com/generic_parts.htm

I used the Super Tech ST7317 but they are gone now. So i use a Purolator L14610 or L14612, they both fit but one is longer...

I have been using extra virgin olive oil for 9 years.
It has worked well for me.
I have an oil filter that uses toilet paper as filter media.
It too has done a fine job. Really seems to take the crap out of the oil.

Actually I like Valvoline DuraBlend, 20W-40.

Back in 1988, I almost bought a Ford Econoline van, circa 1978?, it used a roll of toilet paper as an oil filter, the can assembly was mounted the top of the engine for easy access from under the hood.  It did not, however, use EVOO which is way more expensive - if you use the real good stuff.

The manual calls for 10W40. I've used 5W40 to 20W50 with no issues.

I have 140K on my 2001 Valk Interstate and have always used Shell Rotella T6 5W40 full synthetic which is about $21/gallon at Wally World.  I use the Puralator Pure One oil filter and change oil at 5,000 miles.  Been doing this ever since the bike was new.

Amsoil 10w-40 full synthetic about 10 bucks per qt. with either hi-flo or carquest (wix branded) oil filter.

I am going on my Can Am ATV next spring to Rotella T6 synthetic in blue gallon jug 5w-40 since the can am branded 5w-40 runs 14 bucks per qt. (OUCH) and the darn can am oil filter is crazy high of 15 bucks each.  Heard thru this forum and also the can am forums that many use rotella T6 for around 21 bucks per gallon and is full synthetic and seems to work well for those who use it both on cycles and ATV's.

I think as long as you change oil once per year and preferably full synthetic designed for cycles any oil will be fine on the Valkryies, it's not that fussy.
