yellow/bl is the signal wire from the ICM, there is a connector indicated if you trace it back from the instrument head.

If the gauge light is also out it may be a ground problem (green wire), I am ASSUMING that the instrument grounds back through the same wire as the bulb.

Are your side stand and oil pressure warning lights coming on?  They pick up power off of a bl/br wire that comes into the tach.  There is a "card" in the tach, I thought that I had one here to look at but can't find it right now.  The wiring diagram is at the back  of the manual.
