I have done quite a few disc brake jobs in my life, but never on a Valk. Is it common for the OEM replacements to "squeal" when they are new? The pads and rotors were clean when I installed them and there is no extraordinary scarring on the rotors. The pads appear to be seated on the discs just fine and all the bolts are tight.

As always....any help is greatly appreciated.

Not normal.  What happened to a friend of mine when he changed his pads.....one piston in the caliper was stuck crooked in the cylinder.  After a real hard braking he heard a pop and then all the weird noises stopped.

ChrisJ...thanks. If it doesn't subside in a few miles, I will pull the calipers back off to check.

Thanks again...

I think if a piston can get cockeyed in the cylinder, one or the other is wo-out.
I had one that did that when I was putting in new seals... tapped on it some with
a little brass mallet to free it up and got it to seem like it would do right, but I found
that it always hung a little, not so I could tell while I was riding, but it was
apparent if I lifted the wheel and tried to spin it. I tossed the whole caliper
and put on a "new" $25 dollar one from pinwall.

You could put some spit on your finger and touch your rotor after a ride and
see if it sizzles... don't want to ignore that...

I'm fighting the same (or similar) problem with my rear pads. Replaced with OEM. Everything was clean. Squeals at very slow speed, for example when coming to a full stop. Have taken them off and cleaned thoroughly with brake cleaner and reinstalled. No luck. I'm almost starting to believe a supplier somehow packaged non-OEM pads in OEM packaging. I'm stumped and it's driving me crazy. (I'm a bit anal about things like this.)  uglystupid2   Angry

I've had a few pair of pads squeal till the got seated into the rotor, then it stopped.

One other time I was given the wrong pads, they were of a different material than the srock ones.

They squealed like a stuck pig.     Only other one I had do that was an EBC pad on a stock rotor.

Mine have almost stopped after about 100 miles. The front pads are OEM from dealership and the rear are from Cycle Gear.....front squealed without brake applied and stopped when brake applied. Rear was exact opposite....would almost "groan" when coming to a stop. No rotor damage... just noisy as hell.

I have probably over 1,000 miles on this set of rear pads and they're still squealing. I'll take it all apart again and try to clean everything up one more time. Failing that, I may just buy new OEM pads again (from a different source) and see if that solves it.   tickedoff
