What are you doing, and what is the bike responding with?
ie: press start button, lights go off, but no cranking.
Have you tried to bump start it?
Usual stuff, kill switch turned off, side stand up, in nuetral, clutch lever pulled in.
You have multiple safety points on the bike, to stop the bike from cranking. Any or all of these could be faulty. Then there is also the starter relay. A lot has been mentioned on all these subjects, you can either do a search, or post back with more data.
Good luck.

press start button, lights go dim, but no cranking. Just replaced the motor on a bike that had a severe hydrolock. I put some pb blaster into the cylinders to make sure it didnt freeze up. Was supposedly a running motor from a 2000 Interstate "Pinwall". Planning to try and rotate the motor in the morning with a ratchet. Have had just about everything on and off the bike some parts multiple times to try and get her going. Finally had lights and power to the dash and thought I had it licked. Have made sure the kill switch is in the run position have grabbed the clutch, made sure the side stand was up and bike in neutral and still no joy. Also planning to pull the plugs before the next attempt to see if my starter is just weak.

Check your bank angle sensor round side goes to the bottom. Easy to install wrong as it looks like it should go the other way. You wouldn't be the first.

I didn't think of the bank angle, but if you had a lot of the bike apart, it could easily be that one.
Lights going dim is not what you want to see, shouldn't they go right out? IS model right? It uses a relay for the lights, so you don't get the same power through the starter switch that you get on the other models.
I would next check the stater relay.

Planning to do just that in the morning. Damn 12hr shifts make it so there is no time to work on the bike on my work days. Off the weekend so hopefully I will be able to figure it out.

ok the kill switch was the culprit. it now spins like it wants to start. I put everything back together but fuel is still flowing out of the right bank of carbs. floats look good and move freely carbs are spotless but the overflow wont quit flowing. I desmogged and replaced the petcock according to instructions except for the.vacume line to the tank. Could this be causing my issue?
