My Stebel was installed at a wrench party few months ago and has worked OK til now.
When horn button is pressed, I can hear relay clicking and headlight dims out but no noise out of horn.
Haven't "honked" it much and have not run through any water or mud.
Any ideas?

Hey Dan...it could be either the compressor not working...the tubes have come lose...or the horns have water in them.  I would suggest taking the tubes off the horns and push the button...if you get air coming out...then it isn't the compressor or the tubes. Remove your horns from the bike and blow them with an air compressor...if you don't have one...well...try sitting the horns bell down on a paper towel (to see if you actually get moisture out) and leave them for a couple of hours.

If you don't get air...then you need to check the wiring to the compressor...to make sure that it is getting electric...(it is possible that electric is your problem because you do have a separate fuse for the compressor...).  If your fuse is good and your connections are good and your compressor still isn't working...then it is gunked up.  You can try spraying some WD40 inside the compressor (through the air hole) to free it up.  Don't hook it up to your horns until you feel you have most of the WD40 out of the compressor.

When my two Stebels quit working after 12 months each, I found the best way to repair them was to replace them with BigBF Quad Horns.  They've been on almost two years and I could not be happier.

When mine quit, I took it apart and the motor that run the compressor had the bearings froze/rusted up.  Sounds like you have the same problem. ~TJ

As people get older, the horn starts working intermittantly. You could use one of those ED (electrical disfunction) pills but you gotta' drop 'em in 30 minutes before you need the horn. And sometimes the horn will blow for over 4 hours; then you should contact a mechanic.

Or replace it with a WoLo from Harbor Freight.

The fact that the relay clicks and the headlight dims indicates that the horn is pulling a lot of juice.  It sounds to me as if something is interferring with the armature rotation.  Those horns work by spinning a little electric motor that has a vane fan attached to one end.

I had one do the same thing and a pebble had worked it's way through the air passages and jammed the armature.

If this is what's happened, it's either dismantle and repair, or replace.
