Lori sent me a pic of Carl earlier today. She said he looks much better today. She said he looked so bad yesterday that she didn't want to take a pic. Also she told me on the phone that they had him up once today to go to the bathroom. If I knew how to post a pic I could add it to this thread. He looks better than I would of thought.

Ok...  WamegoRob and his wife, Teryl and I and Lori are going out to eat.  Gunslinger and I just got done picking up Willow's bike and took it over to Roadkill's place.

I will talk with Lori to see if I have her permission to post Willow's picture and pics of the bike.  For what it is worth the bike fired right up.  Lots of damage to the fairing, instrument panel popped out and is in pieces, bags are busted up, forks bent, frame looks to be straight, brake light, turnsignals all work and high beam works.  Ultimate seat has a small tear but not noticeable.  I would hesitate for anyone to post a picture of Carl unless Lori is good with it.  We need to respect her privacy and understand that these decisions to post anything about Carl only is with instructions from Lori, purely out of respect.

Not that I am complaining but I haven't slept since friday afternoon and worked friday night and saturday night with no sleep.  Stayed up saturday so I could see all the Kansas folks and then the accident happened so I didn't want to sleep and then today I wanted to get Carl's bike in a safe place.  Not at all really tired but the sacrifice is minimal compared to what Willow is going through right now.  I have lot's to share from talking with the wrecker guy but I want to go over it with Lori at dinner first.

With all that said, Carl was moved out of ICU and into a "spinal recovery room"  room 316 and Lori said " He is resting comfortably with medication".

And none of us here that are helping Carl and Lori want the spotlight for anything.  I know that Willow would be doing a far better job at this than I.  I just want to do all I can for the both of them.  I look up to that man like a father.  He has been by my side through some pretty rough patches in my life and has bent his ear to allow me to vent and nothing but love came from him.  I just want to let him know that I love him and Lori and we are thankful that we have resources to provide them with and Lori doesn't have to think about other things.

Teryl's mom went out and bought Lori some clothes and outfits to wear and I was able to rescue her from driving Carl's truck that has no a/c and was on E.  She is now reliving the moment of driving her old civic, ( I have the exact same car she had before she gave it to her son).   Lori is doing really well and me, having lack of sleep this morning and being silly I had her laughing pretty good.

Continue to think of them and pray for both Lori and Carl.

Talk to you guys soon.

Raining and drenched in Topeka, Ks.

Stude,
Thanks for doing what you can.   I know I speak for all when I say we all appreciate it and wish we were in a position to help out also.   Take care and get some rest.  We don't need to hear about you getting into a "situation".   Thanks again.   cooldude

I just spoke with Lori, and (with her permission) can only add a few details to what Joe Stude31 just shared.  I also heard Carl in the background asking her to help him reposition in the bed to try to get more comfortable.  It was really great to hear his voice!

Carl's C1 fracture is minimally displaced.  Lori is not sure yet how they will treat it.  It does not appear to be impinging the spinal column as that would affect his legs, and they are moving fine.

The brain bleed is stable and they believe it will solve itself.

His pelvis - badly broken in the last accident - is fine.

Although he as received lots of stitches, they do not believe at this time that he will require facial surgery.  His facial fractures are non-displaced.  However, after everything is healed up, they may need to do some clean-up work to his sinuses.

The swelling at his right eye has gone down enough that it's no longer swollen shut.

He will need surgery to his left hand and wrist before he goes home.  It's the same hand/wrist as last time, but the fractures are in new locations.  Plate & Pins.

He broke a big toe.

They are hoping to move him closer to home very soon.

Seeing Willow's pic brings back memories from 2007. Also broken eye socket, shattered left wrist, broken right hand, broken vertebrae(T5) and lot's of stitches. Kids took several pics of me laying in the hospital bed looking very similar. It's debatable whether I turned out ok...but I know Carl will come through with flying colors!

Thanks to all for the updates.  I think the Interstate just needs to be buffed out.  Willow just needs time to heal.  Although the picture might be seen as difficult to view by many, I am happy to see he is starting his recovery.

Prayers continue to be raised.  Get better, Willow!  Hang tough, Motomama!!!

Out of ICU is a great start, glad to hear it.  Heck, he's almost purdier now than before.  Lookin' like he's fixin' to start a new "lo-rider" fad with that fairing.  Glad to hear he's up and about already.   Blessings to you both Carl/Lori.

From Motomama's Facebook page:

Just a quick update as I am really beat this evening.  Carl was moved this evening to the Spine Center of the hospital and out of ICU.  I hope to be able to meet and speak with some of the doctors in the morning.

Evidently when I went out to dinner this evening with some friends, he had some issues.  He was very disoriented and actually got out of bed a couple of times.  When I left the hospital, they had set the alarm on his bed, so they will be alerted if he attempts this again.  He was also trying to remove his oxygen and collar, so they will be watching that as well.  He gets anxious and somewhat agitated at times (as well as a little disoriented) so I will speak with the doctors about this in the morning to see what we need to be doing.  The staff was going to keep a close eye on him this evening to be sure that we do not have any incidents.

The only thing he has been able to eat since breakfast yesterday morning is a small container of jello.  They tried having him drink from a straw, giving him water in his mouth with a syringe, and even giving his spoonfuls of water, and he chokes every time.  He is experiencing alot of difficulty swallowing, so they will be doing some type of swallow test tomorrow.  He can do ice chips by spoon, sometimes.

He has become very congested, but that is probably due to the drainage and the blood, so they are keeping an eye on that too.

His swelling has gone down some in his face, so that is another good thing.  He appears to be able to see with his right eye, but we don't know how well his vision is in that eye at this time.  They will also test that. He really does look alot better today, although he still looks pretty rough.

We still do not know a timeframe as to how long he will be hospitalized, nor do we know if and when we can have him transfered to a hospital closer to home.  We hope to have some answers on these questions tomorrow.

I have received many telephone calls, telephone messages, texts and facebook msgs.  I do appreciate all of you, as well as all of the thoughts and prayers.  I am just dealing with so many things here at this time, I an unable to respond to everyone.  Please know that I appreciate all of you and your words of encouragement, thoughts, and prayers.  Thank you to all of you.

I will update more tomorrow as I am able and as information becomes available.

Thank you and blessings to all of you!

Lori-you have enough on your plate. Other folks are running interference for you. Your main concern is and should be Carl til he's back 100%. Just know a lot of us on the board are continuing our prayers as long as needed. That time thingy be the most difficult hurdle as I see it. What ever happens and how ever it goes you got lotsa family and friends here at V R C C. May our everlasting GOD touch Carl and you with his healing hands and wrap you in his everlasting arms.
