Hello,
I am mounting my timing belt cover, and when all bolts are firmly torqued,
The cover still sits loose, it has about 1mm play.

What is wrong? Is the gasket worn out ?
New gasket or can i add a nylon washer on the bolts ?
Yes, the black rubbers & chromed ring are still on the bolts

TiA,

Where the bolts go into the timing cover itself-the bolt holes-are they depressed or dished inwards towards the engine? If they are take your time with a small ball peen hammer and tap the depression/dished area back level. And remember there are a couple DIFFERENT LENGTH bolts involved. Hope this helps you some. the bolts all look OK to me :

it really feels like they are in untill the shoulder, but it isn't deep enough to push against the outside of the cover itself.
i can see a gap between the cover and the back plates, and i can wiggle the cover around  Angry

Some of those rubber inserts on the bolts look rather compressed. You can order new ones and spend a day cussing, trying to install them...a real pain. Or, get some rubber washers to fit underneath the old ones and try to take up some of the slack.

My thoughts are, don't get too concerned about it. Some old Gold Wing riders of the four cylinder versions often would run their bikes without any cover at all, leaving the belts open to the elements. I don't suggest doing that on the Valk since the pulse generators are in there and getting them dirty or wet will really cause  problems. Since a person doesn't go inside that area very often, I would just get some RTV sealer and fill in around the gasket, clean off the excess and forget about it.

+1 I like the O ring suggestion to fortify the old ones.

I suggest to consider that the problem is just as you previously stated:

The cover gasket needs replacing.
