After a close call with a tailgater ---I'm wanting to add a stock fender tail light to my '99 Interstate. Is it possible and easy to do? If so--anyone have a tail light to sell?

The tail light assemblies are reaching damn near unobtanium status. The hole is already in the I/S rear fender and just covered by a plastic plug. And you have to tap into the wires right under the plug. NO-I don't have one mounted nor do I have one to sell.  Lips Sealed I have seen them installed on other I/Ss and they look good.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Keep an eye on Ebay.
Have seen them go for around $80
I added on to my 99 I/S since i did the supervalk mod.
Not too hard to do but you have to tap into the wiring.

Your question was already answered, but you can also consider adding additional brake lights such as hyperlights, an LED license plate cover, LED bar on the trunk, etc.

I just added these to my IS this spring and they, along with a brake light modulator, make a big difference in rear visibility: http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/4015/Deep-Dish-Chrome-Bezels

They can be had cheaper elsewhere.

This is what I put on my Interstate a few years back. It works great. I have a CB so I cant use the fender brake light.

And the price is great!!! cooldude

Below is a new parts list for the job.  Years' old, so it may be outdated price wise.

The lens (only) from Valk std/tourer is the same as several other hondas (cannot remember, guessing, aero, one or more of the 1100s, sabre)  but the mounting hardware/bracket for those other hondas is not exactly right for Valk, and can only me made to work with modifications of some kind.

I just bought new parts for $120 or so couple years ago.  Believe you have to tap rt side cover for tail light. (I gave my parts to a qualified electrical man and he did it for me)

It is a nice (run/brake) addition to the IS trunk lights.  And you can put an led array in there (instead of an 1157) if you want, it is always pretty bright with a red lens cause it is almost always in the shade under the trunk.

Well---I feel like an idjit ---here's a shot of the tail light cover--and it sure looks like the CB won't allow for the stock fender light.

I like the LED bar---what is the best route to go that way? Really want these tail gaiters to notice me when I gotta stop fast..... apologies to those whom took their time to inform me about the stock tail light option!

I have no CB, but have read that it can be turned sideways or around fairly easily to clear a std tail light lens.  Any help with more detail here?

I would have mentioned it earlier, but you didn't say there was a CB earlier.

BTW, there are a number of ways to get more brake/running  lights.

You can put a controler on the signals (right side cover) to make them run/turn/brake, even with 1156 single filament bulbs, but must substitute red lenses (you cannot run full time ambers in the rear legally).  Mine is old, and was cheaper, and not plug and play.

You can get an LED license plate frame.  Mine has the led bar on the bottom to not interfere with the plate light.

On my permanent trunkless IS, I have the std taillight, the controller for signals/red lenses, and the led plate frame.,

Great info Jess--thanks very much!  I would like to go the fender tail light option if possible---with the LED substitute bulb----perhaps even removing the CB which I don't use.

Used CBs generally go for a pretty good price..... could pay for all the rear lights you want.

But really, if you want to keep it, I have read it can be changed around in it's mounting under the trunk, believe it was sideways and the std tail light lens will fit.  Others have posted about doing so in the past.

To me it just made sense to add a light where one was deigned to go (with OE parts available) with a knockout already in place.  Mine with an 1157 bulb only is definitely brighter than my smaller trunk lights.

And BTW, just because a bulb is not burned out, doesn't mean it is as bright as it should be.  Changing out the trunk bulbs for new is probably a good idea.... mine are 14 years old too.

Here are the led arrays for the OE tail light, if you want to go that way.

I would not hook up the integrated signals in this array.

This one is better and brighter with more leds (no integrated signals). I cannot make this link work, go to tail lights under Categories on the left and click, scroll down to the one for valk.
http://www.radiantz.com/index1.html?c14.html&1

You have to do a little cutting to the OE lens which holds the arrays in place.
