Early Bird developed U Joint problems in Marshall, TX, on his way to the Pow Wow.

Anyone have a U-joint to help him out?  His phone is 281-467-3909.  He's not able to get on line where he is .......

Thanks.

I have one in hand but can't run out tonight...I have to be at work in just a bit. Called Early Bird to let him know and he says they may have one in the AM from mototrike but will let me know in the morning if he needs mine. I could run it out tomorrow after work (evening) if needed or can hand off to someone if they can run it out.

I have 2 but I'm 3 hours away and have to leave early tomorrow for a 5 hour drive south, so driving 6 hours tonight and then getting 2 hours sleep before driving again is not good.

Is anyone heading towards Bossier City tomorrow?  I would be happy to bring the ujoint to your place so that you could take it to Early Bird tomorrow.

Just shipped one by Greyhound Package Express. Will be there at 8am Thursday. All is well.  Ray know it's coming.

Thanks for posting, Lyn-Del.

Thank YOU, Mark!  Under "normal" circumstances I would have probably been riding with Early Bird, but I decided to take off early to allow for weather and heat.  I stopped to avoid the weather, and was blessed with cool weather! so that part of the plan worked.

Of course, if I'd been with him, I still wouldn't have had a U joint with me, I didn't bring any spare parts this trip.

There's something about the VRCC that gets problems solved, isn't there?

My thanks to all who responded.  I had over 10 phone calls and many texts offering to help.

Rainmakers was the quickest so I offer a heartfelt thank you for Mark for going the extra mile.   VRCC rocks!

Not to shortchange the other offers, but Mark's was the one that would get the ujoint here the quickest.

In this group, this family, we take care of each other.  I know that if I'm ever stuck, I'll have the same response from all of you.

I was just closer than anyone else with the part.

That's all.

But I agree - the VRCC rocks!

question ...             uglystupid2
can these ujoint not be rebulit ?
new cups and bearings ...
pictures look like they are machined into the yokes ..
no C clip to retain the bearings ...
just replace and  throw away ?            Undecided
thats the option ?   ???
new or used ...

Yes, the entire yoke needs to be replaced. The joint itself is not designed to be replaced. Some have done it, but machining on the yoke is required so that it can accept a clipped joint and properly center it.

John - I have one of the Free Pass rebuildable u-joints in my saddlebag.  With it, I can buy a new u-joint at any NAPA or other auto parts store and replace it in the yolk, plus it has a removable grease fitting so that it can be "serviced" easily.  It did cost more than buying a new regular u-joint/yolk but I'll never run into a shortage issue on a part that may or may not be available in the future.

Rainmaker, again thank you for the quick service.

U-joint has been ordered from hdlparts.com and when received I will send on to you.  Was going to have it drop shipped to you but I also needed an oil seal for gear shifter and did not want to pay for an extra shipment.

Now that I think about it, am going to have to pay shipping anyway to get it to you.
