I guess I have been gone from the area too long.  At first I was thinking the photo was taken from Maximo Park!  Thanks for sharing.  Of course of my second thought was a variation of that line from Apocalypse Now..."You will never have to show your courage in any other way after having battled that I-275 (90mph, bumper-to-bumper) traffic from St. Pete out to Ft. Desoto" on your bike!

Great pics Doug!

As a St. Pete native I have made many trips across the Skyway. The majority of them over the old bridge. I can remember when it was only a one span 2 lane.
My Dad used to drive us over the Skyway in his old rusty 1950's Pontiac with BIG holes in the floorbords. We could look down & see water as we drove over the metal span. Shocked
My sister was on the Greyhound bus that went over into Tampa Bay when the Summit Venture rammed the old Skyway southbound bridge & brought it down in 1980..... but she got off the bus in Brooksville a few hours earlier. We were shocked to hear about it the next day. I picked her up at the bus station at 3:00 a.m. & the crash happened around 7:00 a.m.  She said the bus had a lot of FAMU students going home to Miami on a break. She was an F.S.U student then. Scary stuff that you never forget!

Pic from a few years ago looking back at St. Pete Beach from the Ft. DeSoto access road.

Nice Eddie, I know that spot well! I was reading your post and my jaw dropped, I felt horrible for posting that until I read down a little further
