As I Age I'm losing it. I'll be in a "Home" before long. Is there a cheaper place than the non stocking stealer to get a lock set for tank, steering and ignition, all with the same key? I just changed the Ignition switch a few months ago when some moron tried to steal it by punching the ignition lock. Any suggestions appreciated.

Have you tried a locksmith to just re-key the lock? I had an Interstate trunk lock rekeyed to match the other locks on my bike. I disassembled the trunk and took out the lock. Then carried just the lock to the locksmith. I didn't want him taking stuff apart on my bike. Most (but not all) locks can be re-keyed. The other option would to be a used set from someone like PinWall. Gook luck.

Called 1 "locksmith" and he said only the dealers had the right stuff, or could get keys for it. He specializes in re-keying vehicles.

You can get key blanks on flea bay or from the stealer. haven't checked for sure but most likely cheaper on flea bay. RIDE SAFE.

Had similar thing happen on my Valk I/S. I guess someone thought they needed my bike more than I.
My local motorcycle service fellow happens to collect parts such as ignitions and also has some knowledge on fixing them. I did have to purchase a new ignition because of the damage.
A local locksmith determined from his available information which internal waffers were in my original (damaged) ignition and in my new ignition purchased. My service guy installed the matching required waffers that match the original ignition in the new ignition (housing), which also matches all the trunk locks etc.
I believe the code stamped on the key helps determines the waffer numbers in the ignition, each waffer has a number attached to it. There are 5 waffers. (eg. 23321)
The key is either a "C" or a "D" code and this is followed by two numbers (C81 or D43), this helps in determining the waffers required (eg. 23321). Hope you kept your original ignition, because some of those waffers may still be useable in your newly purchased ignition.
The first two waffers in my ignition were the damaged ones, so I only needed those to make up the set I needed, which happened to be in the new ignition.
It still cost a bit for the new ignition and labor, but still reasonable compared to replacing all the locks or needing 2 keys.
Clear as mud? I hope I explained this right.

How much do they want? I got the whole set (every lock for a Tourer) for about $125 from HDL a few years ago... -Mike

A member here with the handle of "JaysGone" out of Delray Beach Florida is a locksmith. You might try a PM to him to see if he could re-key the lock. Probably doesn't cost much to mail it.

I would simply have the locksmith remove the two damaged parts from the lock and then continue to use it as you have been doing.
It will still work.

Ricky D: I used a screwdriver before I installed the new ignition switch a few months ago. Now I need to replace them all because I have no key capability....but thanks for the thought. I sure would appreciate your input, Rickey, in removing the locked locks from the gas cap, under-seat and steering head. (I try to be + and use available knowledge)

There has got to be a competent Locksmith some place near you??? Just look for an older guy not a kid.
If you have no luck. PM and send me the Ignition. The gas cap does not come apart by the way. ill have to brave the 98 degree heat in my garage and look at the ignition. It may not come apart??
Ok went out and looked. The cover is bolted from the back. So that said Im not unbolting anything in this heat. I have a ton to do to my R* and some light work on my trike. Nothing will get done in this heat here...............anytime soon.

About 10 years ago I meet a guy doing some work for a business I owned. He had a Valk also. He stuck his key in my bike and it actually turned and started my bike. Guess some may be keyed alike.

Just plain luck. There are about 1500 different keys and Honda repeats the codes about every 4 or 5 years. Usually on a different key blank for a different model. There are only 4 cuts and 4 depths on our keys.
