The first photo shows what came off my screen filter after letting it dry. Looks like a small amount of rust. Is this anything to worry about on a 11 year old bike? Or just clean and install?
The second photo shows the screen filter. The lower half of it seems squished and distorted. Is this normal? Can I clean everything and re-assemble? Undecided

Yeah, that looks normal. I wouldn't worry about it and just put it back in the tank.  Make sure the o-ring is correctly placed under the screen body and the body is fully pushed into the petcock housing. Failure to do this may upset the reserve feature of the petcock.
