"8 Weeks can be a long time or it can be short.  It depends on ones point of view.  I cannot change how much time a bone needs to heal, nor how fast the earth goes around the sun.  But, I am learning that I can adjust my point of view."

You will be just fine brother,,, the way you are handling the pain pills says it all.  Just use it and make it heal.

Jeff,
I'm glad you healed faster than expected.   That's great to hear.  But ... racket ball? I'd start out with maybe ....eating a yogurt or something Wink

Just take care over the next few weeks that you don't injure it again!

Looking forward to seeing you in mid-August.

OK, heres the thing.......Im so excited.   I sat on the Valkyrie today and twisting the throttle and hard on the brakes doesnt even hurt anything.  I felt like pushing the bike out and going for a ride.......BUT!!!!!  I was a good boy.  In 8 days the 6 weeks is up.  Thats when the Dr said I could be more brave and DO THINGS.  Right now Im still supposed to wear the splint when Im not just relaxing, so Ill wait.....

8 days

8 days

sounds so much better than 56 days........(8 weeks) that was the original estimate!!

For now Ill squeeze the ball and work on range of motion...........but next week REAL THERAPY STARTS  cooldude

I love Techron

Well Im not going to try to ride this week (long story), so I decided to roll the bike outside and start it for the first time in over 5 weeks.  Touched the starter button and it didnt just crank...it immediately was idling smooth as a kitten and ran perfect at all RPM's.

Half a bottle of Techron in 3/4 tank of gas and after 5 weeks it started as easily as if the motor was already warmed up

Soon to be riding again..........Im going to wait till the 8 week point just to keep peace in the house.  I feel like I can ride now (just barely) and I know next week I will want to ride, but 2 1/2 weeks from now I wont negotiate.

Well......Progress!!  cooldude

I have been waiting for the day I can start working out on the bowflex again.  Yesterday I tried, the wrist couldnt bear the pressure even on light weight.  I was frustrated

So I have occupational therapy today and she has me doing all kinds of painful stuff.  Its "real" fun.  But during one of the exercises my wrist "pops" and it was pretty loud, the lady next to me in therapy heard it too.  It must have been a ligament moving back into place because things felt much better after that.

Ok, now Im home and try the bowflex.  I can do bicep, tricep and forearm albeit with embarrassingly low weights right now, but HEY! that will improve.

My arm already looks way more normal just after a short work out and them hurt muscles getting stretched out like they are are supposed to be.

Its such  blessing to be able to use the hand and arm more normally, Im so excited I just had to share.

I think I will have Judy's blessing to try riding the Valkyrie after this monsoon stops, its going to rain here for at least 10 more days.  By the time its nice it will be very close to the 8 week point.  I can hardly wait, but Im excited now that I can work out........every day stronger and stronger

I can really see the light at the end of the tunnel

See yas on the road soon!

No pain, no gain.  I'm sure you heard that hundreds of times but there's a lot of truth there.

I hope there's a break in the rain so you can get out soon!

Hope you are on the mend Jeff.  Seems like wearing a soft wrist brace would be a good idea for awhile, so long as you can still use the hand.

No flaming death, no one had to die.....all went well  cooldude

We have a little break in the rain, so I couldnt stand it.  Pushed the bike out and went for a ride.  What a feeling of freedom after being cooped up inside for over 6 weeks.  The wrist brace felt great and there were absolutely no control issues during the ride.  I didnt even think about the elbow and that was my main concern that acceleration would mess with the stability in there, but nope, not a moment of uncomfortable at all.  I couldnt be happier!!

Oh man! It is so cool to be back in the saddle.  Long hard rides will still have to wait a tad, but normal daily riding is on again.

The bike ran fantastic after 6 weeks.

Well.....I beat the timeline.....tomorrow (friday) makes 8 weeks.  Tomorrow was supposed to be the day I finally got the cast off.  Holy crap my wrist would be frozen solid.  Im just now getting somewhat close to normal movement after 3 weeks of occupational therapy.  But, Ive been riding again for almost 2 weeks.  The rain has helped minimize my outings but Im ready for good weather now!!!

So Im riding and working.  I can do 10-20 push-ups which is like a third of what I was doing before, but HEY not complaining.  Still have a lot of soft tissue healing to do.  Ligaments and tendons heal slow and hurt longer than broken bones.  The pain of a broken bone is more intense than that of the soft tissues, but the soft tissue pain is a deep nauseating ache compared to a sharp quick pain.

I am grateful for all the prayers and well wishes, this was a significant event, one I would not wish on any enemy, but recovery has been good, progress fast, and I am a happy camper

Tomorrow is the 56th day since it happened and I am way more back to normal than the Dr's said I would be...more than I thought Id be...........NOW I HAVE MY SIGHTS SET ON 100%

My next goal is to be sleeping through the night on a regular basis.  Thats a biggie, then to have the elbow bones completely stable by Biketoberfest.

You can see the healed break at the wrist and how all the muscles are shrunk.  I have to go slow with the weights due to the tendon and ligament damage, but Im making progress

Jeff just remember, in yours and Carls case the process of "healing practice" does not always equate to perfection.

I'd say in this case practice doesn't make perfect.

Excellent points both.

Healing is in a large part a gift.  I still have some issues reconciling why one heals and another doesn't, more specifically why I am among those healing quickly.

flsix, one of us (the one I know best) is far, far from perfect.   Grin

exactly flsix.........rarely does something heal after major damage back to as good as God created it.  (which was as Carl says far from perfect to begin with)  So its a net loss equation almost always, but as long as I can hug my wife, ride the Valkyrie and scratch where I need to, then its perfect enough for me.

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!  Went out to the hunting property today and did some shooting.  Shot the .357 with hunting loads and there was no pain at all.  Next trip out I think Ill brave the .50

This means my healing goals have been met two months early.  This was an experience I dont wish on anyone, but Im almost done.

As soon as I can sleep all night and never need a pain pill to get through the night I will truly be able to say its behind me.

Hopefully by Biketoberfest all this will be so.
