I have the opportunity to purchase a 1972 (verified by serial no.) Colt Python .357 Mag, 8" barrel, nickle finish with black rubber Packmayr grips The grips are a bit dirty but should clean up nicely. Overall the gun is in very good condition and the nickle finish is excellent with no evidence of wear. It does not come with a box. It had a scope mounted on it once but was sold many years ago. I know it hasn't been fired in over 12-years. The owner doesn't know what it's worth but I'm thinking somewhere around $1,000 to $1,500.

The gun in the link is not the one I'm looking at, but it looks exactly like it only this one has a 6" barrel

What say you?

Strikes me as a tad on the high side, but I'm really a 1911 kind of guy. My daily carry is a satan and blue M70 1911.  It's a little heavy, but will make a nice club if it ever should jam (which it NEVER has).

This certainly is not a carry pistol.....unless you carry it hunting. In my search, I have not found one for sale on the internet for less than $1,000 and as much as $2,000 plus. I am amazed how much these have gone up in just a few years. But, they did stop making them in 2005...from what I understand.

I know what you mean. I loaded up on .40 and .380 caliber around Christmas. Even then, they were disappearing quickly, We went to a local Super Wall Mart this weekend and they had about tree boxes of .22 cartridges total. Other than that, there was ZERO rifle or handgun ammo  >:(

IF you get a price you can live with, it just depends on whether you will enjoy owning it.  I started out shooting 6" Smith revolvers in slowfire bullseye comp; they beat 4" revolvers hands down.  Years ago, I traded up from a 6" Trooper III to a 6" Python (blue).  I am more of a practical shooter now, and could kick myself I didn't get a 4" Python.  I rarely shoot my long barreled revolvers anymore.  And when i do, I do much better (with my eyesight) with a 7 1/2 Redhawk with 2X Leupold (but then my arms get tired  LOL).

Colts are always overpriced,IMHO.
I would prefer 3 less expensive toy's for $1500.
There are quite a few pistols on my list.

Colt Python is an impressive handgun, that holds their value well. As others stated, you can find lesser quality and less expensive handguns, although if you do your research and can get one for a fair price it's a fine piece to own :cooldude: decisions, decisions :-\
If you can't be a good example: be a WARNING!!

In my opinion, the Python is the Roll Royce of revolvers.  The actions are smooth and they are very accurate.  I don't know about the price, but if you buy it, I'd be surprized if you don't love it.
