question about dark side

understand the idea of taking off the inner bolt clamps from the rear fender but what do you use to reattach the grab rails and or aftermarket side bags?
do you just get a smaller bolt and nut that attaches to the inner fender alone or fabricate a 2-3" flat metal plate to add some strength to the plastic fender?
Im looking to put on a set of saddleman bags with the chrome bag rail spacer...but what to secure them with? thats with the altimax 60 tire

What kind of a bike do you have that has a plastic fender on it.....
On mine we run the bolt through the fender from the inside. Used a carriage bolt and an acorn chrome nut...

I think I used a stainless steel 3/8" carriage bolt from the inside and a couple of nuts then bag rail then another nut.

I just use a standard nut on the inside of the fender.
The original nut plate is quite thick.
I'm guessing you save about 1/2 inch on each side of fender, using a standard nut.
