Rattling cages again............as usual.
Think it is time we started thinking about an overnighter somewhere. Panhandle? South?
Doesn't matter.
If we went toward the panhandle we could pry BF and crew out of bed and get the guided tour I bet.
Doesn't have to be expensive or extravagant in any way. Savannah? That sounds fun!
Think about it and start posting up ideas. We have plenty of time at this point.
We don't quit having fun because we get older..........we get old because we quit having fun. Lets get out of the ruts and have a little fun!

Hey! I thought we quit having fun temporarily cause it's so darn hot, not old! Are there any good places to stay at Cedar Key? We rode there once and it looked like it might be fun. But open to any suggestions.

We met in Panama City on Veteran's Day weekend.  I'll see if I can dig up some pictures, that should be a good laugh.  Maybe PC Shaun will see this and speak up.  If I am not mistaken his Dad is Jodie that was Brian (Swoppie's) friend.  He lived there.  Brian was the Florida group head honcho for several years.  We had people come in from Kansas,North Carolina,Tennessee, all over to that ride.  Talk about a pretty ride but highway 98 around the Gulf of Mexico is beautiful.  First time I saw pine tree's growing so close to the salt water.

That would be my choice as well. Chris and BF, and several others if I remember correctly all live up there. I sure would like to wait until it cools off a bit though. For me, our Summer is like their Winter up north. I just need plenty of advance planning time to get time off from work. Would be a great opportunity to group ride up there too.

Some years ago with the Gold Wing group, we stayed at a resort in Eufaula, Alabama. The resort was basically a number of cabins which we shared to another couple. I don't recall the name, here's a link to the Eufaula home page. Nice music! It's a bit far for some of you, approx. 208 miles from the I-75 & I-10 intersection.
http://www.eufaulaalabama.com/
Got to digging around and found the Lakepoint State Park which has cabins or the main lodge. Google it if interested, has a lot of info available.

As for Cedar Key, they do have good overnight facilities, we've stayed there a few times ourselves. In years past, I've flown into their little landing strip(don't land long...or short), it's about 2 miles from downtown. Was fun, all you had to do was overfly the town and waggle your wings. And by the time you landed and tied down, this leathery old gal would drive up in a beat up station wagon and take you into town, used to be about $8 but probably gone up by now. Tell her when you wanted to leave and where to meet and you had best be there, or walk to the strip. My first time there by plane was the late 70's, about 15 yrs. later I took Rita there and lo and behold....the same old gal with the same old POS car came to pick us up. As for activities, not much to do but eat, sleep, drink...or, indulge in your own "entertainment." But it's rather quaint.

I'm bumping this back up for obvious reasons. I was hoping some of the North Florida, mainly Panhandle, guys would see this and give us a low down. I will gladly volunteer to do what ever is required to help make this happen but it will require some one who lives where we would like to go to touch base with hotels/motels and such for a "Ground Zero" location, reduced rates, good rides, etc. I would really like to see this happen if we can reach a consensus on dates and locations.

I'm good for the cooler weather months.  I don't ride much in the hot and humid and rainy summer months.

I also work rotating shift work and don't get off the weekends (much).....although, I can take off usually fairly easy.

Xtracto works off shore and out of country.  Don't know his schedule.  ChrisJ is self employed (I think).  There's way more than just us, but not many too active on the board though that I'm aware of.

Thanks for posting BF. I think we all agree that October, or thereabouts, would be the best for all of us..except Eddie because he will have to get heated gear.. Grin , and if I remember when I lived in FWB, it's getting pretty nice up that way in mid to late October. What we will need help with is logistics, like where to stay that could accommodate a large group of us, good eating places and some fun rides and activities. That's where we would need the help of some of y'all in the Panhandle. So give it some thought, maybe talk to Chris (I know he got hurt recently) and some others up that way. It would be a great get together and,if past events y'all had up there are any indication, well attended and memorable. Thanks so much.

Phillips Motel
290 Main Street
Robbinsville, N.C. 28771
828-479-3370

Clean family owned motel. Have camp fires in front yard where everybody gathers around in the evenings.
Always sold out and I believe overflow goes into local Micro-Hotel in Robbinsville.
Most show up on Friday with ride on Saturday and gone on Sunday.
We usually head out on the Wed. or Thurs. before and get a local ride in on Friday.
The ride on Saturday usually gets broken up into 2-groups  -  One being for the beautiful fall color to enjoy and the other for what is called the more spirited ride.( other wise better be a good twisted road mountain rider to keep up  uglystupid2 uglystupid2 uglystupid2

Always a GREAT TIME HAD  cooldude cooldude cooldude With a bunch of Great Valkyrie friends.

Would love to do it then but I'll be on the boat in Brazil until the end of November. Hwy. 98 from Perry, FL west is a nice ride. I gotta stop spending so much time on this cursed boat and more on my phat lady.

I'm really starting to give this some serious thought. I'm not sure I can ride that far in one day...but there is always the trailer and then that beautiful mountain riding!! Probably need to decide pretty soon though huh Rick?

I'm afraid I did Doug. The arthritis in my shoulders and back have made it nearly impossible to ride continuously for 6 or 8 or 10 hours..like an all day ride. I'm afraid if I tried it all the way to NC, I would have to lay up for "days" to recover. So, the trailer let's me get to where I need to be..like the mountains..and still be able to enjoy doing some riding!!  Now, if that group has a problem with that I guess I would just have to go up there and do something else. That's a pretty spirited bunch I'm told. At least I haven't given up and still ride and haven't just sold the bike. As they say.."It is what it is"  Wink

Ignore the rhetoric regarding trailering your bike.  If you live your life caring what others think about what you do, you will be held their prisoner seeking their approval in everything you do.

I'm going to call tomorrow about a room. Yes, the trailer is my best option for sure. I should have come up with a better story I guess. Truth hurts sometimes. I can take a ribbing with the best of them. Most of those folks are already up there and don't have to ride that far. Bill (Grumpy) certainly impresses me with his long in the saddle ability. We talked the other day and he might be interested in going as well. I would still like to go up with you guys, I'll be your chase vehicle and can carry lots of extra stuff for y'all. It's a pretty big trailer.

I agree completely Greg. I have never been a slave to public opinion. I usually just do what makes me happy.

Doug, what you said certainly didn't upset me at all my friend. It just sparked the notion of the "sure as shootin'" grief I will get for trailering my bike. My iron butt days have ended and that's hunky dory with me..and it was funny!! Grin

Wouldn't mind a long weekend panhandle gathering, Robbinsville is out for me as I'll be riding the BRP in September. The boss only gives me so many months of solo vacating a year joined with my other travels.
