OK, so no known reliable Valk wrench in Portland Oregon.  Are there any other members in or around my area?

You might try to ask that question on the Vermin board, looks like the closest one to you.  http://www.vermin-club.org/yabb/YaBB.pl

I took a look there, but not only is activity minimal on the whole site, I need to sign in to ask and I would  need to register to do that and that option seems to not be available at this time.  Looks like I'm not supposed to find an experienced Valkyrie mechanic, or a VRCC member near me.

There's one thing about Owning a Valkyrie, If you need help or instructions on how to do something to your Valkyrie, just post the questions on the General Board or the Florida Board and we will try to help out as much as possible. There really isn't much that goes wrong with our Bikes that we can't fix ourselves and having a few tools and a little bit of Mechanical Knowledge will go a Long Way for a Valkyrie Owner and save you lots of Cash. Most of the Mechanic Shops don't know about the Valkyrie's either, they just charge you a lot of money for their time trying to figure out what is wrong and how to fix it. I hope this is helpful and Good Luck finding a Knowledgable mechanic that won't charge an Arm and a Leg.

Thank you for your suggestions and encouragement.  I live on a boat so there is no garage to work on  the bike in.  That and a lack of tools make doing my own wrenching highly impractical.  This is why I am looking for a dependable source for servicing my bike.

Thanks for the tip, Art.  I am trying to stay way far away from Honda shop Mechanics, unless I find one that's over 40 and lights up like a Christmas tree when Valkyrie is mentioned.

I live severl miles south of you.  It has taken me nearly 3 years to find a good shop to take Valk to.  I won't take her to the local honda shop, if it was the only place in town..

I finally found a shop by google'ing shops in town, I had visited those on the main roads (all 3 of them), not impressed.   I went around and visited these shops.   Three of them were hid on back streets and took a bit to find them.  Finally found a shop that I will be taking parts in to be worked on, like replacing seals on forks and taking pinion cup off.  The guy in charge new Valks and had worked for Honda in the past (and didn't really like Harley's).

Of the other two, one would have been a good shop but the guy was wanting to retire and didn't want to take on new customers.  The other, I wan't impressed when I walked in and turned around and left.

Hey, ole man.  I guess you are several miles plus a few south of me.  I live in the Columbia River and you can spit on California from your front porch Grin.  I bought hay in K Falls for my horses when I was logging in the Howard Prairie area a lot of years ago.  I actually had a guy ask if I built my Valk today.  Go figure.  I am doing the Google thing and asking folks here abouts for recommendations.  Not having a Garage and shop is the only thing I don't like about living on a boat.  Thank you for reaching out, Gary

Gary, Good luck on finding a shop.  It sometimes takes getting a list and just visiting the shops.

From your post, it sounds like you were "horse logging" in Howard Prairie area.  Been a while since I have seen a "horse Logging show".   What hores did you use?  I spent 30 some odd years in the woods working for the Gov in 6 different states and saw a lot of different skidding systems.

This is a little far for you but I have had good success with the Honda dealer in Medford, OR.  I had a very bad experience with the Honda shop in Redding, CA.

I had a team of greys:  Percheron/Shire cross geldings.  They were full brothers about 1430# each.  They were smart and hot.

I use this place for getting my carbs sync'ed and I get my tires here.

This place used to be Wingman enterprises which specialized in Goldwings and Valkyries.
The guy that owns it has a valkyrie.
I have a garage and tools across the river in Vancouver if you need to do some maintenance.
I do all my own maintenance. I think I pay a little more attention to detail because my life depends on it.

Had a logger with a pair of Mules, Percheron/Donkey cross, geldings in WY.  He had them trained to pull a load to the landing by themselves then return.  One guy hooking them up in the woods, one guy unhooking them at the landing.  These two critters were rather big, I had trouble seeing over their backs, and I am over 6' tall.  Fun to watch.

Sounds like you have some options from post above.

Thanks guys. Now I have something to go on.  Ole Man....I used to hang the lines of the near horse on his hame and chirp to them if I could not see a safe way out with a turn & stop them once they had it on the skid road.  I learned a lot more from them than they did from me.
