On a east coast trip.. Did 3000 miles. About 300 miles ago noticed a vibration 70 and above, then started to move down to 65 today. Had some cupping on the wheels so got them replaced in a honda shop in Greenboro NC. Next 50 miles was ruff.. Vibrations worst and worst and now down to 55 too. Then parked, grabbed phone and started to research. Read on here final drive transmission or something. Just did not want it to quit in the middle of now where and take more time to get it home to Nebraska. So put it in a uhaul. And heading home now. Any ideas what is the exact cause? Or close?  After this trip and uhaul 1200 miles, no more money for touring till maybe next year so have to tear this apart myself and dont mind but want astarting point.

Good possibility your ujoint is going south.  How many miles on the bike? When was the final drive/drive shaft splines inspected and lubed?

Have to side with Rio Wil. Most likely suspect would be the universal joint. Not likely trans. Pull the rear and inspect the drive shaft and u-joint, rear wheel bearings, and drive splines. Bet you find it in there cooldude

I just went through a vibration issue  with my 99 IS . The left rear wheel bearing was going bad.  It was a easy fix. Smooth as silk again.

I have had both- rear bearing vibration and u-joint. The bearing was much worse and got bad quick. really felt it in the foot pegs. The u-joint was not as bad and showed up mostly in a coast type roll. usually on hills as I crested and started down. Wish you all the luck. Had mine in the shop twice for the u-joint. Could not feel any play or roughness until it was on the bench. felt tight it the bike.
