And now you know...

You can rewrap that. Just need some intact fiberglass wrap.

there is a straight through tube with louvers cut into it. this wrap is around the outside of the tube and deadens the sound with very little restriction.

That is correct.

I just couldn't figure out how they got all of it in there as it just fit back in with half of it cut off. I think that maybe they used that much to help reduce the heat on the chrome and perhaps prevent bluing or burning a leg.

I have picked up some new packing and will get it fixed up this weekend.

Well I'm glad I took a look at why the right side had a different sound than the left.

I pulled the right side apart and found the wrap had been compromised.  Roll Eyes

This is what the pipe looked like with the baffle pulled out.  ???

I got it out using a coat hanger .......... modified!  Wink
Residential insulation!  Shocked

I wrapped the baffles with this, using masking tape to secure it so I could insert the baffles back into the pipes.

Now the pipes sound the same!  cooldude

I highly doubt it as there is no air space between the outer pipe and the wrapping. Even if it did, there is nothing to damage.  coolsmiley
