I went over to show a friend how to put a clamp on his fuel line & put his tank back on .....  He was getting upset not being able to fit his hand & nut driver to tighten the clamp & tighten it down because he could not reach under there to do anything  ....  So I suggested to take the left side hanger cover off that way he can see what he's doing  ..... Well everything went back on great EXCEPT when I tried to line up the shut off valve brace , it did not match up with the rear bolt  .....  The eye of the shut off valve clamp and the one bolt closest to the shut off valve looked like it at least 1 inch off to the right , it did not look like to me the shut off valve was directly pointing out the middle of the tank  ...... He got more upset when the bolt holes did not match up , and why not  ..... I suggested it looked like to me the pet rooster needed to be turned to the left just a tad so that the shut off brace eye would line up ..... I asked him where did he set the tank down at when he took it off , just to make sure it had not been set on an un-even surface or something ..... Sooo my question is , what could be the possible reasons the shut off valve brace does not match up with that one bolt hole for the hanger cover ??  So I can pass it on for future reference ......

Not sure I understand you problem correctly OLD GEEZER, but if one of the coil mounting bolts and spacer was put in the position that should accommodate the petcock knob hanger, that would cause a problem like you're describing.

Petcock shut off stem should be at 90 degree's to the tank center line.  If the nut on the petcock is not super tight you can move it enough to make the shut off line up.

Hey Thunderbolt , that was my exact thought , that the pet rooster is off center for some strange reason ....  when I connected the turn off valve to the pet rooster itself , thats when I noticed the whole assembly was pointing towards the rear of the tank , not pointing towards the center of the gas tank .... Thats why the shut off valve brace eye would not line up with the nearest drilled hole to push the bolt thru & screw it into that coil bracket .... I was not there when the tank was taken off , I was called after the fact to put the clamp around the fuel line and tighten it down and connect the hoses and put the tank back on ..... Hey Pancho , did explain myself any better ?? the whole problem is that the pet rooster shut off valve IS NOT pointing to the mid line or center of the tank , causing none of the three bolts to line up to get started , you got it now ??  Oh well To be continued , thanks for you guys in-put   cooldude   ......  Thanks the Geezer  crazy2 crazy2

Well then just twist the petcock straight and tighten the gland nut.....  you may want to pull the nut to check that the rubber o ring did not get damaged when the petcock was displaced.
