I put a fuel fliter on my 98 Valk between the petcock and carbs using fuel injection clamps ( after a leak with the screw hose clamps). While rideing at 80 mph for 45 min. or so I start to get fuel starvation. I feels like it is running out of gas. I suspect I'm not getting enough flow through the filter at long high rpms and draining the carb bowls.
Has anyone had the same problem? Should I remove the filter or try to find a larger car type instead? The motorcycle filter I'm using is most likley for a 2 cyl. not our 6.

The filter Honda put in our gas tanks looks pretty good to me, I wouldn't add an
extra one...

More than a few folks have had flow or other problems with a fuel filter.  Most of us wiwth the OE tank screen only have never had problems.

I put the filter in because I had a hydrolock situation. When we got the carbs apart they had quite a bit of dirt in them. We thought the fuel filter would be a good idea. Perhaps i just need to elimate it. I also put a pingle petcock in at the time.

If you use a fuel filter made for a car application, it works fine as they will flow plenty, but filters for small engines can cause problems on fuel flow, sometimes from the flow rate of the filter and sometimes because of the poor flow caused by the new routing of the fuel lines.  Not saying that is the cause of your problem as a bad petcock or vacuum leak in the line to the petcock can also cause similar symptoms and should be checked. Fortunately, it should be easy to check for a vacuum leak without removing anything using carb cleaner. And, you can isolate the fuel filter issue by temporarily replacing it with spliced in hosing or returning to stock configuration to check it.

We were typing at the same time. If you put in a good pingel, you should be able to rule out the vacuum line and petcock and just test removal of the filter to isolate the problem.

I took the tank off, fuel filter and line out and the filter has some brown gunk in it so I removed the petcock and the screen filter was even worse. Then I drained the tank in a clean white 5 gal. bucket and saw lots of small rust particals. Funny thing is when you look down in the tank it looks like clean metal. Im not sure if it is rust or dirty gas but will clean and treat the tank and install a new auto type filter I picked up at Orilley's.
I will give it a test this weekend and let you know.
Thanks for the help!

Putting the filter into the line extends the length of the line quite a bit.  Sometimes, the fuel line can kink when you button 'er back up.  This could cause your problem as well.
