I am going to order a mount for my GPS. Thought the handlebar was 1" dia. but after looking at one on ebay they have a chart that you measure the bar with a string and then compare to their chart. I did that and it comes to 1 1/8 " bar.  Does anybody know what size the bar are for sure?
Thanks

If it´s OEM, it´s 1" diameter for sure. If someone has changed it...who knows.....

Edit:

I don´t like the idea with the string.....i would try to measure with a caliper, that´s for sure the better way...if you haven´t one, maybe you can borrow, steal, whatever....

If you can't find the tools to do the measurement there is yet another option (I also don't like the string.)

Get some stiff card stock and carefully measure and cut notches on the edge of the card stock.  one cut  1" wide  first.  try and slip the notch over the handlebars if it fits over the bar snugly you have 1" bars if it won't fit try a 1 1/8" notch, keep upsizing until you have a snug fit.

Take a Crescent wrench - adjustable spanner - open it up so it will fit over the bars, snug it up so it is a good fit, slide it off, measure it with a tape measure.  Not to the thousandth but you will know if you are getting a good measurement by feel - if you don't own a Crescent you can always try with an open end as they usually have the size stamped right on them - try one size up and one down by 1/16's as well if you have doubt.

A friend of mine that is a machinist used to recommend the following procedure - measure with a micrometer, mark it with soap stone - then cut it with an axe....  but then Rapid Tap was his beverage of choice as well so not sure how good his advice always is.....
