My vacation is turning into a nightmare. Does anybody in Canada have a working alternator for a Valk they can sell or lend me? Ken at MARS has one, but UPS says it will take till JULY 11 to get it here... Fred. falliston@gmail.com

Anything here from Jeff K's link that might help out? These can be easily modified to fit a Valk. Hopefully there's a Honda dealer/shop nearby that has or can get one of these relatively quickly for you....
Good Luck!!

'97 Goldwing Aspencade Part # is 31100-MT2-015 "The terminal & plastic insulator are different where you connect the alternator battery wire. You have to take off the capacitor that is mounted on the Gold Wing alternator and rotate the front housing to match the holes from the Valkyrie model so that it will fit."
As per Ron Ayers Parts Fiche, alternator 31100-MT2-015 fits on the 30 following GL1500 Goldwing models :
Honda GOLD WING GL1500 (1988 to 1990)
Honda GOLD WING ASPENCADE GL1500A (1991 to 2000)
Honda GOLD WING INTERSTATE GL1500I (1991 to 1996)
Honda GOLD WING SE GL1500SE (1990 to 2000)

Ya know......if push comes to shove, you could buy a good size car battery, disconnect your bike battery, attach the c/b + lead to the disconnected pos lead and run the c/b neg to a frame ground. Pull the head light fuse, which is a hi draw device, maybe other non essential fuses.....suspect you can ride all day on just the car battery and relocate yourself 300-500 miles in another direction and improve your chances of getting an alt faster or more availability???? Oh.....obviously will have to secure the c/b somehow so it won't fall off.....

Rio, I have a friend that lost his alternator while traveling with his pull-behind trailer, and after the time and expense or renting a truck and trailer to haul it home realized he could have done this very thing. A commercial electrician. Edit: Now I remember him telling me he could have even bought a small gas generator and used it to charge the battery periodically in transit, all carried in his towed trailer and............ I don't care how redneck it would have looked, I would have still saved a lot of money (including motel), and got home much quicker. A Texan.

If it isn't working, you have nothing to lose disassembling it, many an alternator has quit for no more than a burnt solder joint. The CB is a good idea,, I'll file that one away.

Take the alt out and take it to a Alternator repair shop. Seems that there should be one near by somewhere. It's most likely just the brushes need replacing.

+1 I have never had to replace one. Have always been able to clean them or replace the brushes or fix the solder. But mine is here in Richmond BC if you need one.

Thanx for the feedback, but we may have a solution. Ken can ship it to a UPS pickup point just across the border, and there are couriers here that regularly make runs down there. I should be on the road for the weekend. Fred.
