Hoping for experience/advice in removing kury iso grip throttle side.
Its just glued on isnt it? Internet search says to use WD40 to work loose old glue? What type of glue should be use to re assemble?
What its about is I bought an IS and it has iso grips with a cam lock throttle lock. I want to install a brakeaway throttle lock. I went to get started and realized the grip has to come off to remove the cam lock.
I have a brakeaway on my standard and love it and really wanted to have it on IS for the Inzane trip. Looking for advice as not to get myself into trouble this late in the game. Should I be able to remove the iso grip and then re glue it without concerns? Also the brakeaway on my standard is with the factory grips. Directions say the unit I bought for the IS, it will work with Kury grips. Any issues know?
All advice appreciated
Oh yeah, there are helmet holder ends on grips, not sure how they are on there..threaded?
Thanks

The best tool to remove grips is an ice pick.  Remove the ISO ends, carefully slide it in between the grip and throttle sleeve, and sister up the thin nozzle of a can of brake cleaner (alcohol) or carb cleaner (both better than wd40) next to the ice pick, and squirt and work the pick in full length.  Do it three times at 4, 8 & 12 o'clock, and they should come off.  This is why I only use RTV silicone sealant for grip glue, it comes off easy.  Clean and scuff things up with sandpaper before reinstall.

Some have also used compressed air with good results, my little compressor lack any staying power.

EDIT: I have one of those helmet holders on one of my ISO grips and it came with the bike and I don't know how it comes off.  Look it up on line.

You can also try shooting solvent in the cracks between the ISO grip rubbers and metal handgrips.

I agree with Jess but I used a coat hanger and cut it then as you stick it in you rotate the handle clockwise and the coat hanger will rotate the opposite way around the handle bar... Here are a few pics, now keep in mind this was used on stock grips.

My Jury helmet holder failed in short order. I had to hacksaw it to get my helmet off the handlebars. The end. Sorry, I don't remember how it attaches for sure. Maybe the four small screws on the end of the grip?

Compressed air gets it off.  Then you will have to use sandpaper to help clean up the dried glue that is stuck.  There is one other issue.  The ISO grips are longer than the plastic throttle sleeve, and when you add a cam lock or other device, the ISO grips are even longer.  The issue with that is the lack of support underneath the end of the grip.  I know a guy with a machine shop and had him make an extension that screwed into the end of the throttle sleeve.

The helmet holder failure issue concerns me. I like the idea of extension for the iso grips. Although I'm not a big fan of the iso grips anyway..they look nice. But I do fine on my standard with the oem grips.
I didn't work too hard at it. Its glued on pretty good. I decided to wait until after Inzane. The cam lock works fine, I just don't like it as well..harder to disengage. I only use lock for a couple mins at a time anyway. I will work on it later, when I do not feel rushed. If I tear something up I won't sweat it as bad..lol  I just got done with double bearing mod, rear end/u joint service and added darkside..I'm tired of working on her..ready to relax and load up for Inzane.
A big thanks to all that posted, great feedback.

Yes, the helmet holder was attached by 4 little screws..#4's maybe?..they required a 3/32 allen wrench. I have only used helmet holder a few times, it was on bike when I bought her last summer. I hope what you experienced was more a fluke, than normal. They are handy..if they dont ruin your ride cause they broke.

Are you sure the cam lock won't come off?  I had the same arrangement on mine.  I loosened the cam lock, then pushed the rubber center piece out.  Came off much easier then the brakeaway went back on.

+1 on Chiefy's comments. I understand why you want to change it out for the Brakeaway, far superior and safer IMO. Good advise above on removing the Kury grip. The only grip adhesive I use is Honda cement, just let it dry well.

As far as hanging a helmet, I've use "studs".  Roll Eyes

I may not have posted the proper brand of throttle lock I have..it will not come off without the grip being removed.

Do you have the MADCO Cam Lock?  Tiny firm in California?  If so, you are correct in that it will not come off without removing the grip.  I've been using one for years.

When you get the Cam Lock off, don't throw it in the trash.  Those guys are selling north of $100 these days.  I love mine.

YES, bring it along to Inzane.  I bet you can find a buyer at the Thursday Swap Meet.  Don't forget the little key chain socket wrench if you have it.
