We have a Valkyrie Standard and would like to put a radio/MP3 player on our bike.  We currently have scala rider intercoms.  You can plug an MP3 player into it, but the sound is crappy.  These intercoms are barely adequate for talking to each other.  We're afraid that if we put speakers on the handlebars, it will keep the intercom open and we'll hear the music through our headsets.  Is there any way we can get good sound in our helmets?  Or, is there any way to get sound that doesn't interfere with our intercom?  We are open to any and all suggestions - just want to have tunes on our ride!  Thanks.

First of all, welcome.   cooldude

Don't know what all you're open to, but I hate having something playing on/in my ears drowning out what's happening around me.

My set-up is a Woody's fairing.......

A Sony DSX-S100 head unit (your mp3 goes inside the head unit)....

Sony DSX-S100 Digital Media Receiverpowered by Aeva

.....and a Rockford Fosgate 300w amp, driving four Alpine 5.25" speakers.

This is it when I first installed the fairing and the Sony, but before I added the R/F amp and the Alpines.....

There's lots of folks with a Woody.   Wink

This system is available in the J&P catalog.  I would get the next generation, its $100 more, but they are good.  Ive had this for 6 years or so and its still perfect

Chris, is that the amp mounted under the triple tree?

I'm actually getting one done this week Maxer.  I got a Shark system from the classifieds here.  Looks like amp under the seat, speakers on the bars with some chrome P-clamps and a black iPod cable from the amp, out the front of the seat into the tank bra pocket.  I will put up some photos when done.

There are many ways to have a sound system I have used this one for over 6 years and no problem I have my amp on top of tool bag in battery box and works well no over heat problem and easy to unplug and remove. all you need is some speakers and a volume control and good amp cables to hook to mp3 got all from radio shack and I use a SKYFI3 as a mp3 player easy to hook up and runs off 12 volt I hard wired the power under my gas tank for it.  If you need any more info on my system feel free to PM me. Have some better pictures but my camera is brain farting and will not connect to computer.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I have a complete set up for sale, Memphis fats windshield with speakers, amplifier that mounts under the seat, just plug in your MP3 player.  already wired.  I had this on my standard, and removed it when I installed a woodies fairing.  My add was removed from the classifieds, contact me if interested.  248-79FOUR-6ZERO37

I have Cycle toons on my standard with 4" speakers for 4  YEARS. love it.  The amp fits under the seet just right, and is protected.  Super sound quality with my Ipod.

Lots of us with standards/tourers have added fairings in the name of having good music. It all depends on what you're wanting to spend. I had a Shark audio handlebar mount system, before my fairing. I liked it for around town, but at highway speeds it wasnt loud enough to hear. My new system is a HD fairing with Alpine head unit, driving two kicker 6.5'' 3 way coaxial speakers. It's loud enough. : )

Yes, that is the amp mounted under the tree.  The speakers are attached to the windshield mounts, hides them ugly brackets some and a side benefit....the sound is transmitted through the plastic of the windshield so the shield becomes an acoustic shell.  Besides, I have always detested add on attachments to the handlebars so this keeps it clean.

Depends on your budget, but I'M A Woody's guy here. I run a Kenwood head unit with USB and bluetooth. With a Kenwood Eceleron amp and 4 ) Kicker 5 1/4" coaxials. Outright kicks butt.

I met a fellow last year who used Scala Rider G9s to communicate with his wife who had her own bike. He didn't like the sound quality playing music on his iphone through the G9, so he used in-ear headphones for his iphone music and controlled it with a Bluetooth remote on his handlebar.

I use J&M equipment. The Integrator brings everything together for me and the passenger, CB, mp3, cell phone, etc. i have speakers and mic in helmet and have a headset cord from the integrator. A great buy now.

This sounds like something that would work for us.  What kind of speakers do you have in your helmet?  How's the sound quality?  Can you still VOXX intercom between the driver and rider?  thanks!

I'm using the performance series headset, see below. The sound quality is good for me, everybody is different. And yes you can still communicate with your passenger. If you get serious about the integrator go to the J&M site for details.
