Bigdog, the Oregon coast has some of the most spectacular scenery in the world - no hype.  We try to get down there often. There's lots of touristy stuff, lots of maritime action and plenty of great seafood.  Another attraction, if you're interested, is the bridge architecture along the coast - unique and interesting.

Let us know how it goes for you.

Don't know how old your son is, but if you want some fun you can go down to the Rogue River and take the jet boat ride or head for the dunes state park and rent ATV's to blast around in the sand dunes.  Much fun!  The weather should be great in Sept.

If you have a few hours to spare, hit the Maritime museum in Astoria, at the mouth of the Columbia River.  This is where the U.S. Coast Guard trains their small boat crews.  Continue on down the coast route from there.

Unfortunately my son ( He's  18 ) and I will be taking a rental car down the Oregon coastline instead of my Valk. We look forward to 3 days in this part of the world. I know it's beautiful there. Arriving in Coos bay the 16th and  leaving the 19th. He is running in the Prefontaine Memorial 10K run there Saturday morning.
I don't post very often but visit here daily...thanks ...Mike...Russell Ky.

The Oregon Coast is Beautiful as others have said. I've ridden it a couple of times in the late summer, and enjoyed every minute. Found some excellent places to stay, and lots of good restaruants for dining. I know you said you're not riding, but you still might want to take along a rain coat, and brush up a bit on your Greenie Political Correctness, they don't call it the Left Coast for nothing....Kidding aside, I found the folks in Oregon to be extremely warm, friendly, accepting, and trusting of their visitors. Don't try to pump your own gas though.....They'll do it for you, unless things have changed recently.
