I was reading don kuhlmans writeup in the shop talk page on ign timing for the Valkyries with dyna units and a trigger wheel im currently running a valk with #38 slow jets a set of the larger diameter two brothers racing 6 into 2 carbon fiber canister pipes 4.5 inches O.D. with a built in crossover pipe  a K&N air filter without the
prefilter  a dyna 3000 ignition unit premium fuel do you suggest a 4 or 6 degree
trigger wheel as a upgrade and what settings would I start with on the dyna

Forget the TWs and just do the "simple ECT mod",...the Dyna 3000 will take care of the rest.

My Dyna 3000 did not work with a trigger wheel at all (I had a 6 degree)

Since both adjust timing, use one or the other , not both.

Setting 5, without the trigger wheel, worked best on my bike.

Good luck,

I am running the Dyna3K with a 4degree wheel on my I/S and if memory serves (often doesn't) I am using setting #7 but I also implemented the 10degrees of retard with a switch and ran my rev limiter to 7,750.
Stock pipes, K&N no prefilter, #38 slow jets, #105 mains.
So I have a mileage setting and a power setting. No dyno runs to prove anything but my Butt-dyno says it works well for me.

Looks like I have it set at either #6 or #7

Shimmed stock needles, stock jets, Interstate springs, K&N Filter, no pre filter, Cherrybomb glass-packs in truck stacks. I tried two Dyna Ignitions, both at setting 7, both brought instant gratification and a smile (when they worked)
First one was sent back and they replaced it free of charge. Second one developed the same problems quickly and worked intermittently on not too hot days. The second unit was sent back for a full refund.
Now I run the same setup with a 6 degree TW and have had it in for maybe 6 years trouble free. Runs like a raped ape with no flat spots.
I had VERY BAD mid range flat spot, that's why I started playing with it.

I have friend who has been running his dyna for about 80k now and trouble free. uglystupid2 Me not so lucky. I get the same bang for the buck for a fraction of the cost.

My Standard valk has cobra pipes , stock carbs and I run a 6* TW . Went riding with JimmyT on Sunday , he has Standard w cobra pipes , rejetted carbs and no TW . We fueled up after 102 miles and I put in 2.3 gallons , JimmyT used 3.2 gallons . We all rode about the same . Gavin was carrying a passenger on his IS and used less than JimmyT but not sure of his carbs or TW or not . I have never had a problem with my TW in 42k miles .

It's still a crap shoot.  I searched high and low for a new one, located one at a dealer in England, when installed did not work.  Fortunatley the manufacturer refunded my whole purchase price.  You might not be so lucky on one purchased through ebay.

The Dyna 3000 is an aftermarket performance ignition module (replaces your stock unit) which allows manual selection between different advance curves. There are also different rev. limiter settings for your rpm.
