on the ride home, after a fill up and resetting of the tripmeter.. I look down and nothing.
The speed needle was not registering.
The odometer was not moving, neither was the trip meter (stuck on 8.6 miles).

any ideas?

Look at the front wheel on the left side. Is the speedo cable housing still attached? If not, the inner cable has fallen out.

Or the cable came unscrewed from the speedo up top.

Or the cable is broken. Or the widget that runs on the wheel is broken. Or the speedometer is broken. Or your not moving Grin cooldude

inner cable is broken..
should I just get the inner or the inner and outer casing??

Does the outer simply unscrew from the speedo unit?  or is there some magic??

Mine did the same thing and I ended up ordering both the cable and housing.  The reason is I didn't know if the broken cable chewed up the housing.  Installation is pretty straight forward, unscrew from speedo housing and unscrew from wheel, remove housing and reverse for install with new stuff.

Having the same issue myself. Ordered a new Box assembly and a new cable. Replaced both tonight and still not working. Any other items I should take into consideration?

Did you get a new or used sensor? Make sure your drive on the wheel is positioned correctly, and the little tang on the drive is engaging the part on the wheel. Have you had the wheel off lately?. Also make sure the sensor is in all the way. cooldude

I did have the wheel removed when new tire was installed. That's when the problem started. I pulled the front wheel again to make sure everything was installed correctly. I found that I did have the Box assembly in the wrong orientation. Corrected and still had issues. I ordered new  box assembly and Speedo Sensor. Installed both tonight and still nothing. Pulled the wheel again and nosed around. I'm wondering at this point if the I have an issue with the gear box retainer.

Reason I asked about tire removal, I bent the little ears on the wheel that the drive meshes with in the wheel the first time I had to change the tire. Not sure how I did it, but, the speedo drive would not engage and spin with the wheel. Might lift the front wheel, and see if the thing turns with the wheel. I just watched inside where the sensor goes and looked to see if the blade was turning. That's how I found my problem cooldude

Totally hijacked thread.

Why can't you simply start your own thread.

I didn't because it appeared to have some kind of lube already on it but it probably is a good idea to use some kind of lube.

Sorry if you deem this a hijacked thread. I thought the fact that I was experiencing similar speedo issues we may collectively solve the issues two people were having.

Thanks for you input.

I do,but, the main reason for this response is to let you know to take it easy on the lower retainer screw. The plastic cracks easily.

If you hook a 12v test light to b+ and tap the connector terminals(harness side) alternatly with the ign. on. The speedo should show some movement,if so every from the conn. back is working and your troubles are in the sensor or gear box.

Mine went out in the middle of KS. I kept going fig I'd deal with it when I got home (1200 miles) but realized I'd loose my mileage for gas stops.  Shocked Little road side repair I was good to go.

Somehow it snapped off at the wheel. So I put it back in and I think I taped it to the speed sensor.

If you can't fix it with duct tape, you didn't use enough duct tape cooldude
