I found this link from an December 2012 thread http://www.emsglobaldirect.com/product.php?productid=434&cat=17&page=1

I heard from the member who posted this and he's still using it with no problems so I ordered one. $246.41 including shipping.  Gonna be a long week without the valk.  :'(

You sure its the alt? My green lights dance around alot. Sometimes into the yellow. Esp with my music. I think my connections at the fuse block are loose.

Yeah, pretty sure. Connections look good but charging voltage is way down. Same low charging voltage even if I bypass the ground cable.

Got to hand it to DM for suggesting these voltage meters. I wouldn't have found it before I got stranded without the meter.

Thanks Robert,

I'd sure like to hear from a member who is using this alternator? For some reason I can't log onto E bay tonight anyway.

Nope. Too much trouble to pull out and install it. I decided when I replaced the brushes I wouldn't pull it again till I installed a new one.

His Name is Ken and lives in Merriville In. I purchaced a rebuilt higher output alternator from him in 2010 and its still  going strong  His Phone# is 219-947-4038 Hes a super nice guy and has been rebuilding and remanufacturing  valkyrie and goldwing alternators  for quite a few years,he also rides a wing  I live in the Nw burbs  of Chicago so i just drove to Merriville and picked mine up in person instead of having him ship it. He gave me the tour of his shop I was impressed. It looks like his prices went up a bit when i looked at his web page a bit ago i gave him my old one which saved me money and took the new high output one home  installed it the next day with a mechanic friend  wellHope this helps .

I bought one of those when the alternator croaked at 59,000 miles on my '99. Put on about 1,000 miles so far with no problems. Been a bad summer for riding with all the rain we have had or I would have piled on more miles.  Embarrassed

I've got  a week or two and several hundred miles on the below alternator now with no problems. Even with my two 50w driving lights and my 70W extra Hi-beam powered up in conjunction with the stock headlight it keeps up just as the OEM did.

Clocking it was a bit of a pain but not bad. I marked both ends and the center section (stator) with a marker before I started, then removed the bolts. I wanted to keep the stator and the end with the electrical connections static and only "clock" the shaft end cap to make sure I didn't twist any internal wiring. I didn't have a strap wrench which would have been perfect so I carefully held the stator stationary with wooden shims in the bench vice.

I removed the pigtail that came with the new alternator along with the capacitor which was wired to it. Only problem I had was my own mistake. I inadvertently got the edge of the boot under the connector and didn't realize it till I had it installed and the boot wouldn't pull up and over the lug.

Once that was fixed all was good.

Many thanks for the advice and info. It was greatly appreciated. This is indeed, a great club.
