That is a great idea. I never thought of using the plastic from a Coke bottle for a seal cleaning tool. It is stiffer than film, and slightly curved to fit the fork tube contour. Also, 35 MM film is not as available as it once was. I almost wish I had a leaking seal to try it out. Not really.

First you gotta drink all that coke!!! Haha. great post tank.
When mine leaked i used one of my wife's thin floppy plastic cutting boards. Cut it into the same shape as they did the bottle. She's still missing a cutting board. HEhehehe

Really, Someone invents a cheap tool that works, I mean I bought two of them for a few bucks and no one sees a problem with posting the procedure to copy them. I think its one thing to just make one but to go on line and blatantly rip someone off that has provided a service to all riders, and teach others to do the same is just not right.
Sorry for being a party pooper, but there is just no shame anymore

I’m sensitive to the theft of intellectual property, as I write software for a living and have had my programs copied illegally. I purchase legal copies of all the software I use, and all the music I play.
I agree the guy on the Wing site went over the top by making an exact copy of the seal tool; that's wrong. You’d think he could have been creative and made something different, maybe even improving the design. But many of us fabricate tools inspired by something we’ve seen elsewhere. We make homemade lift adapters, spring compressors, bead breakers, and carb synchronizers, just to name a few. I don’t see how making your own seal cleaner is much different.

Thats pretty funny tank. I dont know you and I didnt even notice who the OP was when I responded. Anyone that can blatantly advertise how to use a direct photocopy of an actual product to steal someones invention is the one I have the main issue with. I have no feelings of ill will towards you and wonder what would make you say that. Now if I have stepped on your toes in the past (like this here) it must have been because you posted something I felt worthy of commenting about, so maybe we have a different view of things, but still that doesnt mean I dont like you....... Peace

blatantly rip someone off
Okay, gotta open my big mouth here. I didn't see where Tank ripped off anyone. Does sound like you have a "bone to pick". Tank came up with a great idea and shared with us for free. Took pictures and everything. What a hoodlum! There are plenty of examples that can be compared to this. Here is just one easy one. So the guy (won't mention his name), who taught us that we can just file off our timing wheel instead of buying one is "ripping someone off"? etc. etc. I filed mine instead of buying one. I guess I am part of the rip-off conspiracy. Get off your high horse and chill, dude. Now, "rip away". BlueValk

BlueValk Now whos on a high horse.......The person that posted the pictures and the files to down load actuial size photos of a product so we all can get it free is the one I am talking about. NOT TANK The deal with the timing wheel is different. He did not give you access to a file depicting someone elses product so you can duplicate it for free. Had the sealmate forgerer made his own VERY SIMILAR version but not an exact copy, well I wouldnt care for that much but I wouldnt have said anythng. The mere fact that some dont see a problem with photocopying someones else s product and making an exact copy of it, publishing the file and encouraging others to acquire said invention for free proves my point. There is no shame left And for the ones that cant pay attention or "keep up" Im not talking about tank. I wouldnt have re-posted as tank did but I was surprised that no one else saw a problem with the concept

Chris, I think that you are missing the bigger general point here. The web is full of free fantastic knowledge. I have gone on line countless times to find a fix for something, or how to build something. And it is free.
If someone wants to buy the seal clearer rather than build their own, good for them (for a couple of bucks, why not?). If someone wants to share how to DYI, good for them, too. I'll probably make my own and sleep just fine.
There is no "rip off" here. That is the point. And that is what the horsie thing is about. But, I think you are the type to keep riding.

I agree with Chris on this one. Sharing knowledge and tips are one thing, but copying someone else's work and posting their plans for free is quite another. And this isn't directed towards Tank either, just the original person that traced the seal cleaner and made the photocopy.

If you take the time to invent something, and you don't want anyone else but yourself to make a profit on it, then patent it. If someone steals your patented design and makes profit on it you have a case. If not, then oh well.
