Hello all. Need some help from the experts on diagnosing a problem. During a recent ride, heard a chatter a couple times that seemed to come from the rear end. One time sounded like a quick release of air.

Fearing rear wheel bearing failure, stopped by Honda and mechanic put it on the jack and the rear tire spun smooth as glass, no side-to-side movement. He diagnosed the problem as rear brakes since the pistons were fully extended. There's appx. 1/16" remaining on the pad. Our Valk has 29K miles.

Ruling out some problem with backfeed on the Scala Riders, any suggestions as to the cause of strange noises? Or anything we should check? Thanks for your help.

At 1/16" I'd be changing the pads. Noise or not.
Not enough material there to dissipate the heat built up under braking.
Not to mention reduced stopping power.

I would replace the rear pads as they are cheap to do and easy. 1/6th is not alot of pad.
I'm sure others will chime in as they may know more a whole lot more than me.  crazy2

They have the brake issue sorted out.
As far as the back feed in the Scala system. I have that system and have never had an issue. My helmet is full face and the mic/boom is up under the helmet close to my mouth.
There are accessory foam pads available to put over the existing pad to help cancel out external noise and this may help if your helmet set-up is different. There also are adjustments you can set for sensitivity to speech I believe. Take a look at the manual and see. I know there are for the speech to command settings.

So is the brake noise problem resolved?  Or did I misunderstand Pappy's post?

We have run Scala 2's for some years now and never had a feedback sound.  Are you linked with another rider and heard something from their mic?  Or possibly the phone/gps/etc link?

Chatter is a pretty general description, so is it possible you had a strap flopping in the wind?  Even a helmet strap?  Just some ideas to think about.

We rode over 100 miles today with no chatter from brakes, bearing or scala. Will get brakes replaced and bearing fix from Grumpy when we get home. Thanks, all, for your suggestions.
