I have had several contacts about when and where for the August get together. cooldude It will be Saturday the 17th of August. I am waiting on some final details, but I can tell you it will be in the general area of Salina!  Wink As soon as I get the details ironed out I will post it, but you at least have some idea when and where now, so plan for it. Friends, Food, and Riding (FFR) can't get better than that! Cool

Tentatively, lets plan on meeting at the Casey's Store on Shilling road just west of I 135 at 11:30. The plan is to ride over to Wilson, Ks. to "Made from Scratch". After lunch, thought we would ride up to Lucas to "the Garden of Eden", one of Kansas 8 wonders of Art. We will shoot for being back to Salina by 5:30 to allow people to get back home by dark.

Ok, putting the plan together.  Michael needs the rear end maint done on his bike.

The plan for Aug 17th is Michael, JDW, and anyone else is going to meet at my house at 7 am.  We are going to throw that fat girl on the table and get after it.

This is usually a 3 -4 hour deal with no surprises, and since it is going to be in great shape, we are planning no surprises.  When we are done with that, we will head into town to meet any that have gathered at Caseys General store that John posted.

Any and all are welcome to come out to the farm if you get to town early, or would like to take part in any way with working on this bike.  Should several people want to come out, we will have extra people and tools, and perhaps other smaller issues could be addressed at that time.

I think John is wanting to do a small ride around Wilson lake after lunch, but when the ride is over, if anyone else has anything they need to do to their bike, you are welcome to follow me home, and we can throw it on the table.

Now for the fun part.... the road right in front of my house is closed coming from the east.  So you will have to come in from the west.
Take 1-70 west from Salina to Exit 244, turn south at bottom of off ramp (left)
Go to stop sign (bout 3 miles, you will go through a small town on the way),
Turn East (left) and go about 2.5 miles.  at 2 miles you will have to go around a road closed sign.
We are the only house on the South (right) side of the road after you go around the road closed sign.

For the GPS users: 4997 West State St. Salina

And for those that like pics: http://mapq.st/16C77lG

This will be black top the whole way to my house.  Trust me you dont want anything to do with the nonpaved roads around my place here right now, This way adds about 10 miles, saves about 30 min.

If anyone else wants to come up early, let me know, and if anyone else needs anything done, let me know, maybe we can get enough to take care of some other issues as well.

See you next Saturday,
D.

IIRC, we will go right by the lake on the way to Garden of Eden.  and that is a pretty ride up to Lucas.

Looked at the weather again today, it does not look like it is going to be too bad Saturday.  Really for Aug, it looks like it is going to be pretty nice.  80s with 30% chance or rain.

Unsure I will be able to make it. I was changing brake/clutch fluids last week. Brakes ok but no clutch lever resistance. I've bled the clutch several times and see no air coming out with fluid but lever never improves. I have also tied the lever open overnight a couple times, still no improvement.

Jerry, do you have a mighty vac?  I know that helped me alot.

I also know you can get a syringe, like you use to give kids meds orally, and push fluid back through the bleeder.  That way if you have some air in it that refuses to come out, then you can push it out through the top.  That is also handy with some junk in the line that is plugging. It will push it up through the top and then you can suck it out of the reservoir.  If you dont have one of those syringe, go to dillons, walmart, where ever you buy meds, and just ask for one at the counter.  I have a huge bag of them, cause we get one with the girls meds almost every time and I save them.

Get you a hose off the mighty vac, hook to the syringe, and the bleeder, crack the bleeder and push hard and fast.

MAKE SURE YOUR RESERVOIR SAME AS EMPTY, HAS A RAG OVER IT, AND YOU HAVE A TRASH BAG OVER THE TANK, THE MOTOR, THE FAIRING AND ANY OTHER PAINT.  I have had this problem due to a block, and had it come out then shoot a stream through the air.

Usually, just one little hard puff and it blows it out, but sometimes you have to reverse bleed the whole system this way.  Hope that helps.  You might see if BARK1 could give you a hand for an hour or so.  If i was closer i would give you a hand.  Let us know how it goes.

Oh, another thought before i hit post... is your piston stuck in?  Does it return out every time?

I installed speed bleeders during the fluid changing process. I will have to put the OEM clutch bleeder back in to push fluid back through. OK with me if it fixes my issue. Thx.

As for the piston stuck. Maybe, I recall looking down into the reservoir as I squeezed the clutch lever hoping to see bubbles come up through the small hole. I do not recall seeing any movement. I should have seen piston movement, correct?

I plan to change oil & filter tonight so I will mess with it again.

I would think you might see a little movement through those holes.  I have never taken one of these apart to see how close the piston is to the inlet holes... but i would think you should see it move through there.

Yeah Yeah Yeah!!!

I'm here... Just been well.. I won't go there...  I am planning on heading to silver lake on Thursday to get the clutch figured out.  I agree Dalen, I have the mitty vac and syringe to push air up to the reservoir, we'll get it figured out.  I know that it takes a lot of squeezing and opening the bleeder to flush the fluid so pushing or pulling fluid is a far better option.

Bark2 will post results shortly.   cooldude

I finally made it home today after having my flights cancelled yesterday due to weather in Dallas. Yeah a head count would be nice. Also if everyone wants to go to Abilene instead of Wilson we could do that if it would make it easier for everyone. Probably Mr. K's Farmhouse in Abilene. Let me know what everyone is thinking, it's crunch time!

Personally, i dont care where we go for lunch.  If there is someplace else around there that is good, and you want to try that, that is cool too.

The Brick House is open in Lindsborg for lunch on Saturdays as well it looks like.

Last time I tried to sneak out at 09:30 and meet you all in South Kansas it didn't work out so well.

You all have a great time.  Take and post some pictures.

I will not be able to make it, we have the kids this morning and they will be going with there dad at noon so I want to stick around and see them.  However there is a chance that a part of me will be with you.  I believe BARK2 will be on my black I/S.  I should have his bike done in a few hours but taking one of the kiddos with me to the coffee shop this morning and then will tackle the front tire when the kids leave at noon.

I can then take the fun of building willow's bike.

Funny thing happened the other day I have to tell you.  Bark2 road his bike to my place after a (five min fix to get his clutch working  Cheesy )   He pulled up next to the trailer of the two valkyrie's on it and said... "I better take some before and after pictures to make sure my bike has the right parts on it."  Now...  Does he really have anything to worry about folks???  angel

You guys have fun and I too will be looking forward to the pics...

Yep, Joe was with us in spirit and machine today. I rode his bike while he was installing tires and checking other misc stuff before me and the S/O take off in Sept.

Two things I learned on the way to Dalen's place.

1) My next rear tire, next summer, will be a CT. I could not tell a difference riding my bike and Joe's. I've ridden other CT bikes and could tell and did not like the difference.

2) Joe's bike gets excellent mpg. I am guessing I avg 70 mph and made ~35 mpg, good weather, no strong winds. I learned it is all in Joe's wrist?  Grin

Lunch and meeting others was a great time. We had to head home after lunch.

Here is a BIG THANK YOU to Joe for his help!!  cooldude cooldude cooldude

so,  it was a great time today!   Mike made it to the house early this morning,  and we got him fixed up.  every thing looked brand new in his rear end!   his tires on the other hand were 9 year old venoms.   so we made a list of stuff to get ands when the parts show up,  we will tire that machine.

as we finished the bike up,  Jerry,  Larry,  and  David showed up and offered jokes and fellowship.   we then went to town and meet Dave and Pam.   we then ride to Wilson and meet up with Bill and Toby.   had a great lunch!.. and pie!

After lunch Dave and Pam followed us to the lake and we found some good places to toolaround slow and see the lake.  then we headed for the house and they went to the hotel.

it was a great day,  great people,  great food,  and a great ride.
I'm ready to do it again tomorrow!

Oh, and notice that Jerry is riding Joes bike?  At Joes constant txting continued through the morning into early afternoon, Jerry and Larry headed back early to do some riding with Joe.  Joey, we missed you buddy, wish you did not have a list of projects to do this morning so you could have joined us!

For the record I was home working on Bark2's bike.   I only had to replace the front tire that morning but after playing with the kids and saying good bye to them that late morning that I got started on the bike.  Also, my bike needed a ride for I haven't had the time to get the black one out in awhile so I was glad to offer Jerry my wheels.

Dalen,

I was the first to get a text from Jerry and it went like this:  "I m convincd. Next rear tire will b ct."  Apparently he didn't die in a fiery death due to a car tire.  Ha ha ha ha.  Funny thing about that was that he had me put on a metzler on the rear so he said when that wears out he will go with the Falken rear tire.

FOOD:

I was told that they had beerox on the buffet and last I remembered that food was out of this world tasty.  I sure missed that or maybe it was good that I did.  Well, I am going to go clean the bugs off my bike and start working on Willow's ride!  But I have some chores to take care of today inside too so we will see.

Thanks for the pics and look to see everyone next month.

New Guy:

Hope to see you make another ride in the future, you haven't seen the "whole" kansas crew just yet.  We also have a kansas valkyrie facebook page if you happen to be on fb.  Check it out.
We have a really fun and knowledgeable group of folks here in kansas.  And we have some that might just surprise you at what they would do if dared or not dared  crazy2

John called asking how it went,  I told him the food was discussing,  the ride was horrible,  amd there  was tons of fighting about how this whole thing was stupid.    that was a total lie and could not be further from the truth,   but it made him feel better about being called in to work.

he did stop out while I had Mike's bike on the lift to offer kind words and advise,  but then had to go to work.   it's just not the same with out mother whistler  there!

Dave and Pam stopped out at the house before hitting the road and got the grand tour from the kids.  we had a nice visit and look forward to riding with them some more.

always amazed me how great this group gets along and how many drive from so far too take part in a ffr  day.

it is always a good day when we can pull new people in to our group!

As usual I missed a great ride! cooldude Wow 3-4 new folks that is great! Smiley As we all work to spread the Love that is our family, the family continues to grow! angel It was great finally meeting Miscott and checking out his very nice Valkyrie. I think he will enjoy our group and I hope to see him again, he lives somewhere around me, I think! ??? Dave and I have exchanged emails before and I am glad he made it to the ride as well. Cool Hemmyvalk I have not had the pleasure yet, but can't wait to meet you as well. Dalen said you had one sweet trike. cooldude

I sat with my window opened to keep the cab from filling with my tears, Cry while muttering to my conductor " What a beautiful day for a ride!". tickedoff I think after about the umpteenth time he started to ignore me while I wallowed in self pity. Sad Stupid Job! tickedoff

Sounds like the weather is getting nice again so lets ride! Smiley I encourage everyone to post your impromptu rides you never know who might show up. Shocked

Thank you again Dalen for stepping up and helping with this ride, assisting Michael and many others with your skills. coolsmiley Thank you to Dave and Pam, Jerry and Larry, and Shay for welcoming and showing the new folks what the Kansas Valkyrie Riders are all about, Family! angel Sorry I was not able to be there tickedoff hopefully next time. cooldude
