Yestday I tackled disassembling the drive shaft and pumpkin to do a spline grease job. I pulled the driveshaft out of the pumpkin as well.

It ended up much harder than I expected as when I reassembled the shaft and rear wheel, and torqued everything down, thought I was done...but something wasn't right.

On rotating the rear wheel, there was a not right noise and the wheel wasn't locked even though the bike was in gear.

Finally, after doing it several times, I pulled back the rubber boot over the transmission output shaft to see...the U-joint yoke had come off the output shaft. It slid off when I pulled the driveshaft out of the U-joint. It can happen very easily. I have not seen this possibility mentioned in any of the Valk technical forums so thought I'd mention it in case someone else encounters it.

Crap...pull it all apart again, then used my long screwdriver handle to push the yoke back on to the shaft. It did give me a chance to apply Honda Moly 60 paste to the output splines so the time was not wasted.

btw, someone else mentioned hammering the drive shaft into the U-joint yoke. Can't see that...if it's lined up right, it slides right in with fingertip pressure.

Never heard of this happening either. I'm starting to think the mechanical issues from this machine comes from pulling too much unnecessary maintenance.

The splines needed attention.
If they are greased they don't slide off as easily the grease / paste creates a suction between the splines.

Although it's 15 years old, the bike only has 6000 miles on it. The grease was still good and plenty wet which I was happy to see. I'm sure it's the first time it's been apart.
