We took the truck to Cataloochee Park yesterday hoping to see the Elk.  We were not successful with the Elk, but on the way out of the park as we rounded a curve there was Yogi and Boo Boo.  I stopped and we tried to get a picture, but were not quick enough with the camera.  The biggest of the two was looking at us from the road when I first saw it.  Kind of glad we were in the truck and not on the bike.  The road is partly gravel, but the first time I went I took the bike a few years ago.

Terry, that reminds me of an experience about 20 yrs. ago. Rita and I were driving in Canada, nice scenic route between Banff and Lake Louise. As were driving along, suddenly this huge bear(at least 4' at the shoulder) exits the forest to our left, crossed the road in front of us, and into a field to our right. Coming from the other direction was a cross country bicyclist, had all his gear hanging on the sides and over the rear fender. He saw the bear from about 30', hit his brakes and did a high speed U-turn, and commenced to pedal away as hard as he could. I don't think he looked back for a half mile, the bear never even looked at him but I'll bet the cyclist changed his shorts at the first possible chance.  Grin

We have had a Pair of Grown, Black Bears hanging around our neighborhood and in some of our Oak Trees lately. My Toy Poodle lets us know when they're around, she goes nuts and wants to chase them but we keep her restrained. She wants to let them know who the Big Dog is.
