Just changed tires last weekend and noticed yesterday a bounce between 35 and 45 mph. I added 2 ounces of dyna beads when we did this. my last avon roadrider did the same thing but not nearly as bad. wondering if another ounce of dyna beads would fix the problem. I also think that is what lead to the last tire cupping.

Did you check for out of round? Also, might not have the tire fully seated on the rim. Could lift the front of the bike to spin the tire and have a look-see cooldude

If there is not dot on the rim for the dot on the tire the dot on the tire goes 180 degrees from the valve stem. If there is a dot on the rim it matches up to the dot on the tire. On my I/S the dot on the rim is white. Hope this helps. RIDE SAFE.

+1 make sure that tire is seated on the rim properly. What tire pressure do you normally run front and rear. All the old weights off the tires?

I always heard the dot on the tire goes right at the stem. I run 40 psi in it might pump it up to 42 and try that. Will also jack it up and look for out of roundness.

What is the sequence?  Passenger side pinch bolts left side pinch bolts then axel nut?

Somewhere in there ya gotta bounce it up & down a few times to help seat the axle.

If you don't have a copy of the FSM, you can download it at Dag's site. The sequence for reassembly of the front wheel is all laid out there.

If all else fails, I would break the bead and rotate the tire 180 degrees.  Undecided

local motorcycle dealer mechanic told me to always line up  dot with the valve stem . I have mounted my own tires for ten yrs and never balanced any of them until I did the darkside front tire , Ive tried nearly everything and cant get it to stop hopping slightly at 32-37 mph so I just ride it .. Not sure whats up with the dot ... good Luck Gavin !

I had the slow bounce at 35 to 45 mph at one time, changed the front tire and it helped a little. Changed the rear tire and it went away completely.

Ill try the axle procedure and see what happens first. I didnt notice it when we put them on, but I did have my trailer on and my wife. Maybe the extra weight kept it from bouncing.

My 2000 IS has always bounced at 35 mph. Been through three sets of tires. I used tire weights in the beginning, and have since switched to Ride On wheel sealer / Balancer. I have changed tire pressures, currently 35 front 45 rear. New progressive springs up front, checked rear shock bushings and changed rear shock settings, all pivot bearings, still the same bounce. I have quit worrying about it. Let us know if you figure it out!!

You're not the only one with front tire woes. Undecided A couple of weeks ago I took my bike up to Louisville and got both the front and rear tires replaced. I had thought of going darkside , but decided to go back with the Avon Cobras I'd been running. Like their performance. On the ride home , I noticed an uneasy feeling I wasn't familiar with. Not a hop though. I got on 65 and when I got her up past 75 mph it really started feeling screwy. I could feel and see the bike wiggling like a fish. Almost like extreme wind buffeting as if I was on a moped traveling a 120 behind a semi. It was so bad that I pulled off the interstate to make sure nothing was crazy uglystupid2 So since then I went on a couple of rides that were at mostly lower speeds. I had called the shop where I got the tires and he told me to bring it in when I could. So I took the day off today to make sure my wife and I could make it to Ron's aka Blackrams Meet and Greet. Since I was off, I thought I'd go ahead and jet up to the bike shop and let Danny, the owner, take a look. He never has had a bad Avon tire and runs them on his own sweet VTX 1800. He took my bike out for a quick ride and came back and said something was definitely way wrong. He said he could feel it at much slower speeds. He took the tire off the rim and we looked it over.but before he did that we noticed an ever so slight irregularity in the tire.  He thinks that there is probably a problem with the belt(s) in the tire and didn't want me to ride it. He was convincing, the problem is he doesn't stock my tire sizes and the one place we found a tire, it was a Bridgestone. So unfortunately I had to cancel my plans for the Kentucky Meet and Greet, Sad and my bike sits in his shop awaiting a new Avon expected Tues.

My metz bounced, so I took all the weights off. Smooth as glass.

Since this thread is not TOO old . . . .

I also have a slight bounce at around 35 MPH that I noticed only after changing my front tire (Dunlop 404F).  Just checked tonight and the tire is slightly out of round.  Appears to be seated properly.  When I mounted the tire, I did a static balance, no magic beads.

As I notice the bounce only at speeds around 35 MPH, I will take the advice of Regis and simply ride it.  Maybe it's an Indiana problem as most of the posts are by Indiana riders.

Always like to post a picture if I can.

I think it is our crappy roads and not the tire. Regis noticed the other night my axle was not in all the way. Went home and put her on the lift and pounded it in with a piece of wood and hammer. Havent had a chance to ride it yet. I might try another 3/4 ounce of magic beads.
