I have a 98 std with factory windshield and, like many of you, I added Baker Air Wings.  I really liked the way these control the wind and reduced helmet buffeting.

Recently, though, I'm beginning to not like the way they clutter up the looks of my engine, and, some corrosion/rust is showing on the lower end of the air wing post.

Now I'm considering replacing the wings with some kind of fork-mounted lowers or deflectors (like those from www.bigbikethings.com, or www.monstermarketplace.com/motorcycle-accessories/fork-deflectors-honda-vtx-1800r-s-c-and-valkyrie-and-interstate]).

Can some of you experts weigh in on the air management success you've had with lowers, and what kind you use?

Thanks!

I was only using a windshield and had buffeting issues as well as a lot of engine heat boiling up around my crotch.

To resolve this I opt'd for the Rifle Classic Lowers. Below is a link for the VRCC thread on my full review and others comments.

I have the wings and the fork lowers.  The wings work better than the lowers, but the lowers do eliminate  buffeting.  That's why I have both.  I like the wings cause they are useful in winter and for cooling in the summer. Here is a pic so you can see both.  I replaced the plastic wings with stainless, the hardware is chromed. If you look real close you can see the clear hand guards on the handlebar grip that I use in the winter. Hoser  Smiley

Hoser - What windshield is that?

To the OP......I have a cut down windshield on mine and simple Memphis shades deflectors. The deflectors work wonderfully. Very comfortable at some pretty fast cruise speeds.

I have had the OEM windshield and the complete Baker Airwing setup since I purchased the tourer in 2007.  After replacing the plastic panels several times, I have gone to clear Moto-Wing panels which are 50% heaver than the Airwing counterpart.   cooldude

That's a clearview replacement for the oem.  18" tall, with a goldwing vent.  My deflectors are Memphis also.  cooldude  Hoser

I'm the same as Hoser, lowers & Baker Airwings. I noticed a far bigger difference with the Airwings than with the lowers and think having both is certainly the way to go.
