Hey all,

I just bought a 99 Yamha Venture CB unit... From reading here I understand it will work on our bikes....

Has anyone put one on??? I think I have read a few posts here so I took the chance.. it was $125!!!!!

I also want to mount it under the seat as I have Super Valk'd

Next question is, what is the all in one antenna that  some of you are using????

Lastly, what head set should I get and where?

Any help appreciated

Brad

Before I found a Honda OEM CB radio and under-the-trunk mounting kit on eBay I ran with the Yamaha radio on my Interstate.  It's made by the same manufacturer--Clarion.  It is completely compatible with the bike and works well.

Sierra-mc.com is where you want to get your antenna.  Call their tech support for advice.

Congrats - that's quite a deal.  I got a slightly better one though.  I paid all of $50 for one of those last year on eBay.  It was actually listed twice; didn't sell at $100, so the seller relisted it and lowered the price.  Key point - He had no reference to a Valkyrie in his description.

I have the Honda version on one bike and the Yamaha version on the second.  They are the same.

You will need to extend the power harness regardless of where you mount it.  You can cut and splice in new wires or purchase the appropriate connectors and make an extension harness.  I chose the latter after finding the connectors at http://www.vintageconnections.com/.  IMHO it looks much better than splicing.

Sierra-mc.com sells a spliter that allows you to use one antenna for both CB and AM/FM radio.  Works great.

The CB will fit under the seat; you'll need to spend a little bit of quality time with a dremel to modify the the plastic box though.  I seem to recall cutting some off the right side to provide a place for the harness to exit.

Good luck.  It's relatively simple.

Thanks all.

I found it by looking for "Yamaha Venture CB"   I knew from reading here that they should work and have been trolling ebay for one since i read about all you guys using them,,,

I think I am going to use the 16" Firestick II antenna and a splitter, because I don't want to mount the old antenna and a standard antenna out wide on the bag rails.. want to keep it clean looking. I am going to try to mount it between the fender and saddle bag to hide it a bit. Qusetion it which mount to get when I order it. will look around some more and there are 2 options for mounting that I will have to adapt. But I have a good idea how to do it.

Anybody else used this antenna?

Brad, I may have a (years) earlier version that came on my supervalk in '07, and had probably been on there for more years before that.  It is the black wire wrapped type, but no adjustable tip.  I did not get the CB with the bike... did not want one.  So I have no idea how it works with a CB, but it is only maybe half as good (reception) for the FM radio as the OE long whip antenna on my other IS.  I keep it because I mostly listen to satellite and not FM.  Mine is mounted to my bag guard rails with a stainless clamp, inside the back right corner.  It has a big spring at the bottom where it mounts to the clamp, and lately, on the freeway on windy days, it has taken to flying around in circles and rubbing my bag lid paint badly.  It needs a Viagra.

This may not be representative of new ones.

It sounds like you have much of what you need and a very good plan in place.

Both radios, with the proper connector box, can use a single CB style antenna.  On the bag rails was my choice as well.

Don't forget to have the antenna tuned by someone with the proper meter.

Congrats on the plan and direction.

Thanks Willow...

All the parts are on the way.... total expense via ebay and other sources, was about $275 so far for a radio, antenna and splitter,  and an older 5 pin headset....still in the packaging.

Now to see if it all works...

As far as the tuning... Where can I get it done???????? I know Pilots and other truck stops have CB stores but is there someone there that can do it????

Or is there someone on here, near me that can????? Anyone? Buehler?....... Buehler?........

The splitter is "tunable" and so is the dual purpose antenna......

In my area a CB shop can tune the antenna.  Oftentimes a Radio Shack will do it.

There are a lot of CB hobby people who have SWR meters.
