Hey guys,

I looked through the old posts but could not find an answer to my satisfaction.  I have a rusty supertrapp exhaust system and want to get the headers ceramic coated.  The "chrome-colored" ceramic coating is heat tested to 1300F while the satin black is heat tested to 2000F.  I would prefer the chrome color but don't want to burn it up if it cannot handle the heat.

Supertrapps are single walled headers.  How hot does the exhaust gas and header get?  Will I burn up the 1300F chrome-colored coating?  I know that running lean or rich and excessive time idling with the choke on will increase exhaust temps but let's assume I am fairly cautious about these things.  My riding style is relaxed and aggressive, I ride in all climates (hot/cold, rain/shine), and in many conditions (stop&go and highway).  Ohh...and it appears that when I am typing about bikes, I am long winded.

Cheers,

I have Thunder Valley pipes. The header tubes are ceramic coated. No discoloring in several years.

I had the head pipes on a honda cm450 cerma chromed with ceramic powder coating. Ran it hard for a couple months before I sold it, coating looked just as good as the day it was done. 1300 degrees is hot enough to turn the pipes red from the heat, American powder coating here, says he has good success with headers on cars, and bikes with it. The picture shows the head pipes after several months of riding.

Life is like a hot bath. It feels good while you’re in it, but the longer you stay in, the more wrinkled you get.
