Went exploring today and found a bodaceous road that was sort of paved and ran for miles around the hills and reservoirs above and north of croton falls. The road was so dark and cool with the heavy trees growing over the road from both sides it felt like 60 or 70 and not the 80+) Ended up near the Taconic so I took that a dozen miles north to Peekskill Hollow Road and over to 301 and then west to enter Fahnstock State Park.

As I was decending into the park (which is kind of oxymoronish as its on the highest point in the area) I see a stop ahead sign which was placed on the roadway which is a lane each way

That means one of 2 things. either construction or the Sheriff Dept is out in force checking MC's

Pass a smokie hiding on the right then around the next few bends there is 5 cars blocking the road

I slow and stop on the right side of the lane, there is half a dozen bikes on the side with riders that apparently failed the stop

The Sheriff walks up to my left and before he can speak I volunteer "its just recently inspected look on the fork for the new sticker"

The head sheriff looks at the Valk, the NYPD 9-11 sticker on the windshield and sighs audibly

"THAT THING IS HUGE" says the Sheriff

(Now Willow I did not say what I would say normally I am very proud)

"Do you have a motorcycle endorsement?" he asks

Sure say I  want me to pull it out?

"NO I BELIEVE you" says the sheriff. Have a nice ride

I saw 3 more cars similarly hiding after the stop area in case someone tried to rush the stops

301 in the Fahnstock area and the goat trail are like the deals gap of the area In fact many days there is now a van taking pics of bikes on the goat trail (which is designated 6/202 on maps between Annsville Circle and the Bear Mtn Bridge)
It was an awesome ride only a hundred miles or so but now I can go swimming, over to the Pleasantville music fair and listen to some great rock bands later today happy that I got my wind in

Yes sometimes its good to be Oss

Hope you all have safe riding and no speed appreciation awards this weekend

WOW, I guess we that live in the free part of the country take the fact that we never have to go through inspections or compliance stops for granted.  But, as the government seems to want control over more and more lately....I guess we should expect that kind of thing to spread across the land until we all have to live like you guys up there do.  Makes me sad.

We had a local cop pull into our bike nite one night at the Sonic.  He just wanted to chat, he was  biker but was on duty.  He was telling of the Harley he just bought and it was at the shop getting some loud pipes on it.  We made the comment that we were happy to see the LEO's disregarding the exhaust modification rule just like we do........he said there were too many cops that ride for anyone to worry about being harassed for pipes unless they were doing something stupid.  For now anyways, until the tree huggers get their way.

lol chris to be honest with you an inspection stop doesnt bother me it was for both bikes and car (inspection/registration)

Lots of kids and even adults buy or borrow a bike they are not in the least qualified to ride and get themselves killed on both roads  And I mean every week or so we read about it

That I was riding at 10am and there were already half a dozen bikes pulled over means that too many dont take inspection or motorcycle endorsement on the license the serious way they should.

Now if the inspection process actually tested the brakes and not just whether the lights work I would be even happier. Fortunately I have great friends that I met on this board who make sure I just havent passed, but that my bike is safe.

Just another thing to hate about these expensive club dues

Tomorrow I get to ride with my good friend Bonzo who I have not seen or shared the wind with since Powwow.  Hey Robin, Gman, NYTaz you up for a ride? Delaware water gap?
