Went into the local dealer to see what was around and saw a gorgeous 97 Tourer that was obviously loved and cared for. 37,000 miles and my favorite color. Couldn't pass it up and asked Nick the salesmen what I had to do to hold it till next week and he said my word was good and he would mark it sold. I pic her up hopefully on Weds. Glad to be an owner of one of these great bikes and a part of this forum.

Soon... I'll be able to start riding her again... at least more then a 1,000 per year like it HAS been.

I doubt you'll like it at all.
Too many extras included-I'd forget the whole thing.
By the way, what was the name and location of the dealer again!

Looks like you snagged a purdy one!  I see about $400 worth of Kuryakyn pegs alone! cooldude

I found mine in a similar fashion.  Got a tip from a friend of a friend who worked at the Kyle, TX Honda dealer...bought her on the spot, but could not pick her up for a week due to work/travel.  The wait was awful! Cry

Thanks for the warm welcomes. Great board here and people I'm sure. Hope I find someone fairly close to home that knows how to wrench on this properly as I want to learn to do most if not all myself. Thanks again, Dave

If it's not before Weds that your coming thru, she'll be safely placed with love in my garage.  Hate to spend all that time polishing, but a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do.  Wink

Congratulations from one specimen to another.  I've owned a lot of bikes over even more years and the valk is going to ruin you.  Although there are tons of bike in other categories that are worthy (everyone needs multiple bikes), nothing else in the class will be acceptable.

Thanks Joe, I know where Clinton is. Moved to South Knox from Lafollette about 5 years ago. Still work in Lafollette and pull a trailer with the bike for work when I can. Most of my riding is thru the week, but may be able to meet up some time. I need someone experienced at wrenching these beauties to get me up to speed some day. Take care, Dave

PS - Are you sure I'm welcome, even with my Zorro Helmet. coolsmiley

Welcome Dave,  I live on the west side of Knoxville.  I know a little about turning a wrench on fat lady.  Let me know if I can give any help or if you want to take a ride.

By the way,  I'm pretty sure I know that dealer!   But I'll keep your secret.....for a price.   Wink

Misunderstand I know exactly how you felt for the thought of owning such a great ride.  I found my 99 Black I/S in a classified add "Big Nickel" in Joplin,Mo.  It was for sale just outside of Kansas City.  I called the guy and he said that he still had the bike and it had 18k miles on the bike (that was in 2006).  I asked him to send me some pictures to my email address, I was doing some work down in Joplin and wouldn't be able to come up and see it for a while.  After seeing the pictures I told him consider it sold and I would meet him in Kansas city to give him some money down to hold it.  I ended up buying the bike before I even rode it  Cheesy

And when I did I knew I made the best decision and have been enjoying every mile since!!!

This truely is a great group of folks and I can't wait, one more week and I get to meet a lot of you in person.  Be safe and see you all in a week!!!

Looks like you found a good one!!  Mine's a 99 Tourer, same beautiful shade of black.  Just a suggestion if you find that stock seat not too comfy, the stock seat from a 2000 and up is an inexpensive alternative.

Enjoy!

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Didn't know there was a difference. It'll be a learning curve til I get to know all the ins and outs of these fine machines. Heading on a 3500-4000 mile ride next week, so I should find out if I need a new seat by then.

It won't take nearly that long.  Some do and some don't, but if you do you'll know the second day (That is more than a two day trip, isn't it?).

Taking 8 to 10 days. I've put a couple hundred miles on the past day and seem like I'll be okay till I get more of that green stuf for mods. Plenty done to the bike already by PO. For all I know the seat is a 2000.

Nope. That is not a 2000 seat. I have a 98 Tourer and mine looked just like yours. I now have an Ultimate King Boy seat with Utopia backrest and a Corbin solo seat with backrest.

Looks like the old style seat... it looks like you have hi-way pegs, you'll probably be OK. I put on some miles
(not 10 days, egads!) on the old seat and no hi-way pegs, I remember thinking I got less sore digging post

Last year did the Upper Penninsula 9 days and 3200 miles on a stock Nomad 1500 seat. I'll let you know how I fair with a post with pics on the ride when I get back.

Congrats again, glad you got her home.

It is like your best xmas or B-day  present as a Kid I'm sure.

I still can't believe I have one as well.

I just spent 2 hours in the garage tonight waxing and polishing and not even close to being done.
Man I love my time with this machine.

I have had my Valk for 6 years.  I rode it about 8000 miles per year for the 1st 2.  The 5 K the 3rd.  Then we had our son.  the daycare is halfway to work.  The wife works 10 hour days... and I have only ridden 4000 miles inthe last 3 years!!!  Seems like everytime I get on her (the Valk) I love her anew.   I have gotten to ride a little more this spring.

Hopefully, in January, my son will start attending a Montesorri school 3 doors down from the house, and I'll be able to commute to work on her again.

There isn't a bike out there that I would trade her for.
