Hi!

There has been numerous posts about people using a Dunlop D404 130/90-17 bias rear tire as a front tire. Most seem happy with the results.

I might give it a try but am wondering about the speedometer. How does this swap affect it?

Thanks!  Smiley

I run one.  Not much difference in speedo. Still off a couple.

My experience is that at around 70 MPH, the speedo was originally optimistic about 4 MPH. With the D404 that error increased about 1 MPH or a total of about 5 MPH.

The odometer originally was pessimistic a little over 1 mile in a hundred. The D404 made the odometer read about dead on.

I see littlle difference.
Note the following measurements from rim to tire cap:
       130/90-17 117mm
       140/80-17 112mm
       140/90-17 126mm
       150/70-17 105mm
       150/80-17 120mm*(Stock frront tire).
       160/70-17 112mm

This is by math only, manufactured sizes may vary.
I use a Dunlop 404 130/90-17 bias rear on the front.
I am pleased with it. Plus you will also save money, as you get higher mileage from the tire.

Why do some choose a slimmer 130/90 tire in stead of a wider 150/ 80 tire?
Is it about better, quicker curve handling or more tire of that size available?

A 150-80 would be closer to stock by 3mm diameter, but it's hard to find. I'm on my second D404 130/90-17 bias rear and am very happy with it's handling, especially in the rain. The first went over 21K miles.
Pic is at 17K miles...

I went to it for the price 90$ on line and being a rear tire the tread depth is more so more miles without changing tires. I fount that the tire to be as good as the E3 that came of and I use all my tire when I get out of Fl. Smiley

Unless I change my mind (it happens more often than I want to admit LOL), I'll soon order a Dunlop D404 130/90-17 bias rear tire for the front, and a Dunlop American Elite 180/65-16 Belted bias tire for the rear.

I run my radials with a pressure of 40 lbs in the front and 42 lbs at the rear. I have heard/read in a few threads here that bias tires should have less air pressure ... but do not have any idea of the amount required.

I'll start a new thread.

Thanks a lot everyone! Your help/insight has been very appreciated!
