Transmission noise

Fellow Valkyrie Owners,
Hoping some of you can give me some guidance. Just had my bike towed to the shop from my home. Receiving an awful "clanging" noise coming from the transmission area. The guy that towed the bike believes its the Drive Shaft/Output Shaft and said something about the Spline into the transmission not engaging. Can anyone offer some suggestions as to what kind of mess I have here? Thanks in advance and ride safe!

Read the "Ali" threads.... sounds like you may have a similar problem.

How many miles on your bike? Sures sounds like it could be drive line related. How often was the drive line/final drive assembly serviced? It's critical!

Most likely the u-joint, then 2nd, the spline/pinion cup.
There is a lot of info on the forum about both subjects. Search is your friend.
Mileage is not an issue, some have had them fail at 20K, others never yet.

I think these guys have you covered for the most likely items. HOWEVER.........take the time to fill out your profile with your location, there's a good chance someone may be close enough to give you a helping hand and get you on the road to taking care of your own bike. Dealers are called stealers for a reason, not to mention few out there have had experience with the valk and it's quirks.

Thank you all who weighed in. The bike has 19K miles and is a 1999. I bought it 5 months ago and have babied it since I have had it. It appeared that teh seller took realy good care of the bike as well.

With the help of this board and a good repair manual, why not fix it yourself ? A drive-line problem is not too hard to fix.
