I'm fortunate to have two Interstates; one setup for "us", one de-trunked and soloed for "me". I've wanted to take the trunkless one on a long trip, but the saddlebags get filled up quickly. Here's my version of an easy way to increase the size of the luggage rack so it can carry a larger bag or ???. It's a modified version of what others have done and is quickly installed/removed as necessary. I'm not entirely pleased with the inset chrome stripping, but thought I'd try something to dress it up a bit. Picture of the underside and a little imagination explains how it attaches. To prevent lateral movement, I cut and installed a couple inserts that match the grid on the oem luggage rack. Added a steel plate, knobs with threaded inserts, and a couple hooks. It's solid. |

That is nice work. I also have 2 (black) interstates (IS), set up the same way. I always prefer the trunkless solo bike on all trips (which also has multiple bells, whistles and lights the other does not), and rubbed my fender and bag paint pretty good, even with a soft leather duffel with no studs or legs. So I stuck a solo rack on it and ziptie a half inch dowel across it sideways, which holds my soft travel duffel up off the paint, and lets me get in and out of the bags without difficulty. It is invisible when under the duffel, but a curiosity at the motel. LOL My trunkless bike has standard (Cobra) fender struts, so there are no IS trunk mounts to use for an elevated platform. Your setup is much nicer. |

I appreciate the compliments. Material is actually quartersawn white oak (strong and weather resistant). The extender was originally stained an antique cherry and then finished. It was functional and looked great, but also looked a bit out of place when mounted on the bike. So, I sanded it down, filled the grain holes, painted it black, and added a couple coats of clear. I know what you are thinking. Overkill... I completely agree. Trust me, this ain't the first time this has happened. It is a character flaw I've had my entire life... |

Did that years ago for both our Valks & even one for the Rocket 3. Used diamond plate, scrap aluminum flat bar, & some stainless hardware. Installs with no tools & fits in the saddlebags when not in use. Keeps the travel bag from flopping over the tail lamp.   Not real purty but quite effective.  |

My kids asked me why I liked IPA's. I told them it reminds me of their mother, heavy bodied and bitter.
This was followed by a loud noise and a stinging pain to my left arm, but sometimes you have to go all in when you get a setup line.

I just saw your luggage extension you made, now thats a great idea and Im goin to make up something like it.
i cant understand though, why Honda never made those luggage racks much larger anyway, I mean what can you really load on them without a monument of bungie ropes tied in every poss angle.
