5/16" will be a snug fit and 3/8" could be enough to truly require a clamp to hold it in place. Heck, I'm new here...so what do I know.  crazy2

Dave , I used 5/16 when I did my desmog because of the tight fit.
I don't notice any problems with fuel restriction . If you go to the dealer or check on line you can get the proper metric size.

Very close but just enough difference to feel it on a barb style fitting.
5/16 goes on a bit hard while 3/8 slips over an 8mm barb fitting fairly easy.

8mm is a touch larger at 0.3150 in versus 0.3125 in for 5/16

Use some 5/16" and spray some alcohol on the fitting before trying to slip it on. Makes moving rubber on metal move real slick, dries with no residue.

one mm is .03937 ,    8 mm is exactly  .31496  so yes slightly larger than 5/16 @ .3125  or 2.4 thousandths .  Dont know how you could tell any difference.
